First off, I'm assuming this goes here, but if it doesn't please move it to the right foum.

So anyways, I'm making a mario fangame. (I have a tiny engine and have a few sprites for it so far)

I know how much smb/smw clones are looked down upon, so I'm going to try to stray from that a bit. I'm not going to spoil it by giving away the main plot, however I can tell you that no, bowser does not kidnap the princess. Yes, he is the main antagonist, fear not, there will be not princess capturing in this game. In fact, she'll be right in her castle the whole game. And no, the castle isn't being taken over either.

As for gameplay, I was think about something a little different. each enemy has health, so instead of stomping a goomba once to kill it, you may have to stomp it multiple times. As you progress through the game, you will be given more attack power. There is no level up system or badges. You can increse your health whenever you beat a boss, but I can't tell you too much about that for fear of spoiling the plot. You only play as mario, however there may be a couple certain times where you are forced to play as luigi.




Plot:

Game starts when (whatever boss, probably bowser junior) comes in to steal the princess. You, as mario have to beat him up. He's going to be really easy to defeat, but his battle will give you an idea of how fighting works. After you beat him, he gets picked up by a mini-clown copter and flys away to bowser's castle in the sky. Then you get a chance to explore toadtown and peach's castle. After resting up at your house, the next day, you get a letter from peach inviting you to her castle for a celebration.

When you enter the castle, - cut to bowser's castle - So basically, Bowser's really fed up with always being foiled by mario whenever he tries to capture the princess. kamek or kammy bring up the idea of using the 'light orbs.' These light orbs bring extreme power to who ever owns them. Bowsert has refrained from using these because they cause destruction - This time, instead of capturing the princess, he'll be destroy the kindom, starting with mario.

He gathers all the 10 light orbs and gets dropped off at the castle along with some of his guards. He starts by powering up his guards (koopatrol) using the orbs. Mario fails to beat them, and just when they're about to destroy him, a bunch of TDU - toad defense units (more info on that later) - come to the rescue and kill the guards. Bowser then steps in, and have all the orbs, he's invicible. He quickly takes down mario, and as he moves in to finish it off, he gets bowled over, and all the orbs are sent flying.

What knocked him down? Wait and find out.

I'll give you guys a bit of plot at a time. What do you think of it so far? And yes, I'd still like to hear of some more boss sugestions please.

Well, since you haven't told too much in this post, I have to say, it SOUNDS good right now.
As for the bosses, I'd love to see Kamek again as the villian (or the villians assistant) which meets you shortly before a boss fight starts. He may talk a bit to you, then he turns a normal little enemie into a giant form of it Yoshi's Island style.

That actually sounds like a pretty interesting engine concept, and I'd like to see it go into action.

As for bosses, I rather like Funky's suggestion right now.

Falcon Punch is the result of the Sun heating fists. It drives the Blue Falcon. Heating causes destruction of water into the pain, where it then hurts, creating rain. Rain creates flowing water in tears, which can then be converted into other forms through more pain.
