This is a fangame I started to make with GM6 and Hello Engine 3 Lite. Here's some info you might want to know first, before you view some screenshots and such. The game's already 7.5MB, and I've barely started, so the staff might not let it on the site. It can still happen though, so don't get discouraged. Story It's the quintannual BeanBean Christmas, and Peach and Mario travel to the BeanBean Kingdom to visit their friends for the holidays (leaving Luigi behind, as usual). Turns out, Queen Bean and the BeanBean People were waiting for them to start the celebration. Meanwhile in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser is enraged by the noise of the celebrating. Finally, after recieving repetitive (and just plain terrible) presents from all his minions, he orders Kamek, Kammy, and Dimentio (how he survived the events of Super Paper Mario, or why in the world he's working for Bowser, nobody will ever know) to steal the Master Emerald from the Emerald Shrine on the Mushroom Planet, in order to control the Christmas clutter. In doing so, they accidentally bring Chaos 0 to Bowser's Castle. (How'd they get there?) Seeing how powerful the new creature is, Bowser decides to use Chaos's power to wipe out the entire planet, starting with Mario. Mario must now obtain the seven Chaos Emeralds, send Chaos where he belongs, and foil Bowser's most destructive plan yet! FAQ Here's some questions I know people will ask sooner or later, so I put them here. Why are you using Black Squirrel's tileset? I know it's kind of overused, but since it's so nice, I wanted an excuse to use it. No, I will not change it. Sorry if this dissappoints you. Why isn't there a demo? I usually don't do demos. If enough people ask, I might put one up, though. What's with the sprite clashing? I like the styles, so I decided to use them. I'll try to recolor the sprites with fitting palettes so they fit in more and clash less. If the recoloring doesn't win your approval, there's not much I can do, so it'll have to stay. Is there going to be a sequel? Maybe, maybe not. I'm sorta planning on having one. If I do, Kamek will be the playable character, with Mario as a recurring boss. But still. So far the levels look bland, try and add some trees or bushes or something and fill in the blank space.

Sorry, bump and double post. But I have an update. The beginning story is finally complete. Yaay. It's a tidbit lengthy, but it's pretty interesting with a touch of humor (mostly because Bowser does a jig and the cool Beanbean Christmas music). The first miniboss battle is complete:  I tried to make it where you have to jump on Kamek, but it wasn't working, so I made it fireballs. Plus, he's too fast to jump on. Level 3's almost complete. And check out the new map:  And a sneak peek at Level 3:  All I have to do in Level 3 is the secret room, and then Level 4, "Yellow Switch Road," will begin progress.

I'll be blunt, the sprite clashing doesnt look good. And if you dont know what that means, it means using sprites from games that have completely different art styles, if youre going to be using the 16-bit smb3 sprites for mario, then make everything else in 16-bit smb3 style. It's most prominent in this image  i count 4/5 different styles - mario and luigi 3 style - 16-bit smb3 - yoshi's island - BS tileset style - The ?block's style is in another style aswell afaik I don't know, its just using an engine, which is good if youre one of those guys that just wants to make a quick mario game for yourself, but if you're serious about getting into the fan/indie gaming communities then really stay away from engines, or even other peoples sprites if it's an indie game. Doesn't mean the game can't be good though, just don't expect everyone to like it because it uses a good engine, you have to throw in some originality in there, and that doesnt mean just a few new enemies. Also, i find it ironic how one screenshot says 'bumptwiggler in action' or something like that, when it's not even an ingame screenshot - you even said it was not in game - so how can it be 'in action'? anyway good luck. Good job so far, although I see sprite clashing in the Kamek fight. I do see edits to the engine(afaik), although I haven't checked out HME3Lite in a while. As long as you edit a majority of the engine, I'm fine with you using it. However, if you're planning on going into the game industry, or even the Computer Industry in general, avoid engines. In fact, in that case you might want to ditch Game Maker in general ASAP and switch to C++, although I don't know your plans, so I can't judge you. I'd really like to see a demo soon so we can let you know how good it is so far, and so you can fix anything that needs to be fixed before you get so far in that it becomes very difficult or even impossible to fix.

I'll strongly consider changing Kamek's sprite. The problem is that if I change him, I have to change pretty much everyone else (Bowser, Kammy, Kamek, Queen Bean, ect.), so it'll probably not happen. But still, I might work something out. I'll probably end up recoloring a bunch of the sprites with the SMB3 or the BS palette, to reduce clashing a bit.
Fuzzy: I'll try to change it. It's the default healthbar, so I'll need to figure out how to make a new healthbar.
Gameboy: That's understandable. I know not everyone's not going to play this game.
OniLink10: I'm usually not really good without an engine, which is why I used one. I haven't the slightest idea what C++ is, so... uh, yeah.
JoeInky: I realize the sprite clashing is annoying. I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible.
By the way, it is Bumptwiggler in action. It's just a preview of what is to come, so yes, it is a screenshot. Just not in the game yet. Also, there's just 3 styles: BS Tileset, SMB3, and ML3.
Buggo: Look above.
I'm trying really hard to avoid the sprite clashing, but I really like the styles. Like I said above, I might recolor the sprites to avoid clashing a bit less.

Study how the engine is made to try and make your own. >I haven't the slightest idea what C++ is so... uh, yeah. It's considered the most widely used Programming Language. It's used for everything, from making small, cross-platform tools, to making entire Operating Systems, to making Professional Games. If you want to learn it, find and install Bloodshed Dev-C++ and learn about C++ here.
