Okay let's see.
The map is... a rectangle. Surely you can do better than that. I'm not missing something, am I? It's not Turf Brick Land, right? Make it interesting.
The first few level design shots look uninteresting and just like every other Mario clone out there. I could either play your game or go grab Stardust, and this only makes Stardust look better and better.
The new enemies, the one original part of this clone, aren't even put in yet--in other words, you probably just mocked up a "screenshot" of them without even knowing how to put them in-game. Oh, well, at least you're going somewhere off the beaten path.
The (flower/ace coin) would be fine if you weren't replacing the standard "collect it" item with ANOTHER "collect it" item. Be original, pal! Also, the screenshot with the flower seems extremely obvious on where puzzles like that are. I hope a few more are more difficult to get. :|
Fire Hammer Mario? Good job, you've combined two powerups in the least imaginative way I can imagine. What is unique about this besides your newfound ability to become a ma$t3r a$$a$$in and 0wn all the g00mb4s everyday!?
Goomba Plains looks slightly better, but it still screams "clone" throughout. If you're going to make your game unique (and, therefore, "not bad,") you'll need to change a lot of things. I recommend the following!
- Graphics! As long as you use standard-color BS tileset and SMSB3 Mario you will be ignored. Either recolor the tileset like Squirrel goddamn TOLD YOU TO, or ditch it in favor of newer, less used graphics. Protip: Even if your new graphics are badly drawn custom ones, they'll still have more originality!
- Level design! First off, a grassland level with mushrooms is disgustingly banal and, even if you have it in your game, for god's sake don't use it to start the game. Save it for later and draw them in with an environment they're not used to! Furthermore, improve level design in general. Make the player think about how to clear an obstacle rather than just firehammering his way on through it.
- Bosses! Either show us what you've made, or make something to show us. Otherwise, frankly, it'll just be a uniform cakewalk.
Hope this helps! Knowing past experience with other "developers" using the Hello Engine you'll ignore this post and release your clone, but hey! Your choice!
