The spiny dartlet (Desicrocus desiderium) is small and slow, contrary to its name, but packs a mighty defense with its spiny appendages. The young hatch from soft white eggs and are a pale brown until adulthood, in which they become a yellow/green color.

No, this is Gene Pool, a fun freeware simulation game that lets you breed plankton-like animals. When they breed, mutations in color and/or appearance occasionally occur.

The white-headed dartlet (Desicrocus niveus) is just as slow as the spiny dartlet, but this one is significantly bulkier and more aggressive. Stay away!

You breed the swimbots and keep them alive by feeding them the green dots and stuff. And you can tweak the appearance of an individual swimbot and clone it and have it breed with the others, causing a menagerie of mutations to occur.
