3/10, lrn2troll, and what it means to YOU

I'm sure you know that at least one person will miss it. It'd be a shame if I were the only person standing up against this injustice.

Well i'm sorry but i'm not sure what you think is wrong. We're trying to stop troll posts, that's all. I'm not saying we're gonna stop all ratings. If you were to rate someones art by saying "10/10 that's an excellent piece of work" i'd be all for it. But the moment you start rating a post that someone's made by saying "1/10 lrn2troll" it's breaking a rule, regardless of why you posted it.

Even if you disagree with what someone is saying, there are MUCH better ways to debate a point than deliberately making a post that attacks someone.

If you think we're going about it wrong, then post here and come up with an idea or suggest something that might improve the forums in a different way, but so far i'm not seeing anything that's showing me that this is a really really bad idea. All i'm seeing is you're unhappy we're trying to stop a method of trolling.

Edit: And to the person who WILL miss it, i'm not sure I feel bad for them. It's against the rules and we're stopping it, if they REALLY and truly can't accept that, then I apologise but that's how this forum runs.

Actually it's a bit more along the lines of "oh by the way before you start crying about how you got banned for X, X can often (and most often does) fall into the category of trolling".

Be nice! Get along! If you're going to argue, do it in a way that isn't going to offend the opposing side directly but is still going to get your point across! Do fangames! Criticize art!

The rules are there so that they might cover most points about bannable offenses having to do with anything I mentioned above. That's how things work around here! 8)

Yes, it can be hard to see if someone's trolling, flaming or not. Having a hair trigger and blasting anyone you half-think is trolling, though, is very bad policy. What you're doing now is making a blanket ruling that you think will help, but is just going to cause more trouble than good.

I honestly disagree, I can see where you're coming from and I respect that but I can't accept that it'll do more harm than good. How many people do you see posting in this topic that think it's a bad idea? We've all seen the posts, most of us are sick of seeing them, and we're going to stop them from being posted.

And we're not even banning people who do it on the first go, just warning them against posting that way! I'm trying to be as lenient as possible with this, since it's just one small step in curbing something that's unsavory on these forums.

If nothing else, we're trying something new. If it fails i'll accept responsibility and let people go about their business, but as Black Squirrel would say you really have to give it time to work or have a little more patience and see the results.

Tri, you can't make that kind of statement when you are a moderator making a forum ruling. You can't say that something MOST OFTEN is bad, and then just ban it. That's crazy. What will happen to the people who "troll rate" with non-trolling intentions? Are you guys willing to allow that injustice (not a rhetorical question)?

So, see, you are running in circles! It's back to the very wide rule of "Don't troll". You guys still have to read those posts and determine, with administrative decision, if trolling is going on. I just don't see the point in making this more complicated than it has to be !!

"3/10, lrn2troll" MOST OFTEN is bad or can come across as bad regardless of the intention, and that goes for anything that falls within a context similar to it as well.

If your rating is justified and fits the topic at hand, it's fine. And like Kritter said we're gonna be lenient about it.

I'm tired of arguing with you honestly, i've said my piece. Honestly if we PM someone and they say "sorry, it wasn't meant as a troll and here's why [stuff]" i'll simply say "Oh ok, I can see it now, I apologise, you're a good member and I would buy you dinner if I could"

Kritter, I did make a suggestion in one of my previous posts. That suggestion was to abandon this new thing you are implementing and just go back to "don't troll". It doesn't have to come down to this or that kind of posting, because there is good and bad to a lot of things, and this is one of them.

Kritter, man, you are an intelligent and well-spoken person and I hope you don't feel as if I'm attacking you as a person.

it's making it more simple really, if they define what is (or what is considered) trolling- the members then know what it is, and the staff know what it is. It's much better than the vagueness of "Don't troll"

...I'm not trying to build an argument I'm merely saying that all Kritter is doing is reminding us that a certain post style that meets certain conditions can and will be punished.
