PMXD you've got a few options, you can make a character based off a game series you like, or cartoon/animu, or just take a noun and put your own spin on it.

I suggest thinking up some basic ideas for how you want your char to look, then sitting down with anyone on here that has an artistic eye and have them help you avoid a visually noisy ref while keeping it original.
