Being probably the only member on MFGG at the moment with any kind of publishing experience, I'm very disappointed at some of the responses in this topic.

Look, if you're starting out, I highly recommend self-publishing first or making sure a LOT of people see your work. You also have to be very dedicated, because frustration or disillusionment can set in very quickly if you get complacent.

I've only published two installments of my series thus far and I'm actually looking back and changing up how I get the series out to the people. Keep in mind that if you intend on making a successful comic/manga/graphic novel, you WILL be doing this quite often.

Another thing you need to understand is that once you start, you have to find ways to keep yourself going. If you can't find yourself enjoying your series anymore down the line at Episode 10, you're going to be scratching your head and wondering why you even bothered with Episode 1. That's a lot of time and effort wasted.

Definitely just re-hashed what everyone already said, bro.

No disrespect, I agree with your statement. I'm just sayin'.

Its not the wrong way, think about all the manga artist that are real famous right now that did what I'm wanting to do. They took the chance to get a job at Shonen Jump, and succeded in getting it. Think about how things would be right now if everyone of those people that got the job and are doing great now listened to what you guys are telling me about how I should stick with comics, work for tokyopop, or just plain give up with manga and do something else. Things would be real crap right now, and there would be no DragonBall, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Yu-Gi-Oh and all those other good series right now.

Jump comics is renowned. They don't just pick artists up from nothing.

EVERY SINGLE ARTIST THAT HAS EVER MADE IT BIG THROUGH JUMP PUBLICATIONS EITHER STARTED OUT WORKING ON A FAR SMALLER SCALE, SELF PUBLISHED, OR FOLLOWED SOME OF THE OTHER STEPS WE'VE ALL BEEN STATING.

Seriously, we're just giving you insight, man. We (Well, I and a few others, anyway) are not trying to sway you away from your goal. We're just telling you that you can't jump up to the top of the cliff that easy. It's physically impossible from where you are right now.

You have to either take the stairs like your predecessors have, or build your own ladder.

But...you're not Japanese. sad.gif

You can still publish stuff elsewhere and still be famous. Why Japan?

I kinda realized that after finally reading through the topic, but just the first few pages got me annoyed at how needlessly vicious some of MFGG can be, hence why I didn't bother reading the rest until after I posted.

Everyone knows people in the US can't draw things like that and have them be successful.

I gotcha, I said before I'm a little hard-headed, but I you just needed to use the right words so it could get through my thick skull. I understand how I'll need to do some side work, but all I really said in the first post was that I wanted to work for Shonen Jump. But thanks again, I'll make sure I actually get the job at Shonen Jump. cool2.gif

sooo your a Rampardos then?

Anyway I think you could just start out by making a few comics and sharing them on here or with your friends, maybe we or they will tell other people, and eventually you can explode into a phenomenon.

Sorry I didn't see this before, but this helps me actually understand well too especially since you've actually had experience with this sort of thing. And I don't think I've seen your work before yet, what is it? :/
