http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2009-0...e3-wrapup_N.htm

ok what the hell...

I read that NSMBWii will be the first game to feature "demo play"
where you can pause the game and let it take over and finish the level for you and pick it back up and resume by unpausing.

so your telling me I don't even have to play the damn game anymore?

I know Nintendo's trying to appeal to the clueless soccer moms but this is getting a little stupid when you don't even have to try anymore.

If you can't handle a little difficulty in video games you shouldn't play them.

It's a great idea and will allow Nintendo to make harder games without alienating players.

I don't see the big deal.
It actually sounds pretty useful, and I'm bound to use it a few times.

yeah it's definitely odd.

anyway, I can see why they would do this (and honestly I'm not that disappointed by it) but I know that it's gonna be really tempting to press that magic button when I'm stuck on a really hard level. although the original nsmb didn't have any particularly hard levels or anything, so I won't get my hopes up.

also, assuming this game keeps the star coins, I'm wondering if the demo play will collect star coins for you.

edit: also let me take the time to say that the graphics are lame thank you for your time

The graphics are incredibly lame considering SMG had side scrolling parts to levels also and those looked bomb-diggity.

i understand that it isn't forcing you to use it, but you gotta remember i'm an oldschooler.

i grew up in a time when video games were not as highly glamourized. in an age where mom's were still trying to get kids to play outside and away from the "idiot box". i spent my chuldhood playing levels over and over until i got it right or found the code to beat it. frustrating nights with sweaty palms trying to make that one second jump to get the secret or stuck in a long battle against some super boss.
i'm one of those gamers that believes that "casual gameing" is ruining the industry.
that all my years of solitude and button mashing to call myself a "gamer" and here comes little jonny public who can just let the level do it for him and he's a "gamer" too.

it's just another sign of a disturbing trend in gaming to take all the difficulty out of it.

this has been a bigger problem for some time.
i'm not deft enough to really express things better than this VG Cats comic can:

I don't think it's so bad. The way I see it, once you use demo play, you could just go back and beat the level yourself.

Hopefully, however, demo play won't try to unlock secrets and stuff for you and instead just go for the most straightforward path to beating the level.

Didn't we already have this discussion?

This same lame discussion exactly.

About people crying because they are adding a feature they don't HAVE to use?

Trust me, if they use their money to let a game play itself, they are no gamer.

Doesn't really bother me, considering that it's optional. Hopefully, it won't collect Star Coins for you.

I think they won't do this so we have at least ONE challenge if we are too weak and use that Demo Play.
