do you think it would be a good idea for me to use the opengl object for mpuz instead of active objects

i'd probably have to make my own c/lua library for collision detection too which would probably end up badly but then i could do awesome collision mask things you can't do in mmf

like actually use them... or resize them, or rotate them independently of an object

or modify them during runtime or flip them or crop them or copy them to other objects or make waffles with them or or or

or let each collision "cell" pixel thing store a char so you could have 255 different background "types" or up to 8 simultaneous ones in a single cell

how the hell would i do this without creating memory leaks i hate not having a gc for c arrays :(

i dunno it sounds better than lua tables filled with doubles

It's a Lua topic therefor it is acceptable public entertainment.

A C library would probably be the best way to go about it. In theory you can still do this without reinventing your own acceleration, just handle your own collisions masks which are abstract mathematical entities only loosely tied to objects be their coordinates.

In fact that's what I was going to suggest before I had penetrated MMF collisions at all. Of course it's still a lot of work.

well the major problem i'm having is that i have no idea how to do memory management myself

such as the aforementioned crop function; i know i have to make a copy of the array but then how do i assign the copy to the original array without just leaving the original array's crap floating in the middle of nowhere

actually i guess i could just delete the original array's contents before the copy

anyway what i was thinking was to have two different types of masks: a simple rectangular one that uses bounding-box checks, and a pixel-perfect one, maybe also a simple disk which does a distance check

the pixel-perfect one would be fun if there's no easy way to get an object's image data though

It is possible to get an images bytes, or its mask, but I'd basically have to make it return a lightuserdata which you'd pass to your own C library that could actually understand it.
