The argument was only because a group continued to try to force their opinion on others, it wasn't that they had an opinion, it was how they were expressing it basically.

The members can't debate without either

- inevitably attacking the person themselves/insulting each other
- or not explaining their reasons.


Two of which items are important, otherwise you might as well call it Gaia Online's General Discussion.

Well I'd think that once the "debate" becomes an "argument," a Debate Forum Moderator would come in. o_o

It could also be a restricted forum for those Mod approved to debate.

There's debate, and then there's arguement.

That thread started as a debate.

It degraded itself to an arguement.

In a debate, people learn from each other and get input and feedback on their opinions. In the best case, people are willing to take that feedback and use it to improve themselves or respectfully disagree with the opposing party.

In the worst case, it degrades into an argument, where two opposing parties become blinded by some form of rage and shoot insults and names at each other. Only one side needs to be this way in order to turn a debate into an argument, provided the other party decides to ignore the raging one in order to continue debate.

So, if you start getting mad in a debate, do us all a favor and cool off. This may include leaving the debate. If you don't cool off, you'll start an argument and ruin the debate for other people

When a debate degrades into an argument, chances are it will never reach a conclusion for a while, and when it does, it's usually at the cost of several people's moods.

Here's something to remember when you start getting mad.

it wouldn't work on mfgg, and it shouldn't. MFGG isn't a forum dedicated to serious discussions about politics, world abomination or religion - it's dedicated to Mario discussion. Everything else goes elsewhere.

Seems that a lot of member discussions would say otherwise

seriously we end up debating on that kind of stuff every other day or so

Also, I've seen forums have a great debate section and be based off a website that attracts trolls, /b/tards and brats.

all discussions on mfgg is allowed, but the main focus is Mario after all - that is why there won't be a debate forum (and shouldn't!)

We have a 'Help" forum and that isn't focusing on Mario or is going to spark discussion intentionally.

You're acting like its going completely against moral standards, and I see a Zelda topic on the GC's front page with a Mario game topic and no Mario topics in the CCC's front page. The GC has more news than it does Mario.
