what programming language should i start with for making games?

should i just wait 'til mechasource or what?

because i looked at a 6502 assembly (NES, Atari, ect.) tutorial and when i looked at the example i couldn't understand them

of course, there comes the need of a compiler

i'm just looking for a language with a free compiler so i can get the hang of making something without some stuff premade

GML is probably the gentlest way to ease yourself into game making while actually using a scripting language. Using Lua with MMF2 provides similar support but not as integrated. Otherwise you might want to explore Java. C++ is a great way to go but no one is there to hold your hand and you can't expect miracles out the door. --------------------

You'll want to get an integrated development environment to help you though, like Eclipse. Microsoft and the open source community both provide free C++ compilers as well: Visual C++ 2008 Express and MinGW, respectively. For the latter, you'll also need an IDE, like Eclipse or Code::Blocks, all free. --------------------
