Should the sale of used games be tolerated?

As someone who wishes to be a game designer in the future, I must say I don't mind the sale of used games.

However, when companies like Gamestop can buy the games for a ridiculously low price and resell them for highway robbery, that's when I believe the line has been crossed.

It's ridiculous really.

Thats a good point, i don't mind much either but selling it for more then you bought.

For less quality.

GameStop's idea is stupid. It's just as bad as the big companies being so worried about used sales to start with.

It's pretty stupid that game companies are blaming used game sales for their loss of profit.

Yeah, I'd hate to make a profit or anything. *shudders*

I don't mind the sale of used games at like, 20% more than the price they bought it for. (That really isn't much, eight bucks is ten, $16 is $20, and used games are rarely over twenty bucks.)

But when I sell a game and get six bucks for it and it's being sold back for fifteen, that's getting robbed.

I think used games should be able to be sold, but game stores should stop gypping customers as much as/more than they do.

Also, my county just passed a law stating that minors aren't allowed to trade games unless accompanied by an adult. That's just insulting to kids; I'd understand if it just restricted the trading of Mature/Adult Only games, but that sadly ain't the case.

I personally would never buy a used game unless it was for a VERY low price.

Why? Simply because the original company makes no profit off the used game sale, there is no difference between me downloading a ROM and buying a used copy.

most of my games are used games that I paid $10 for.

I hate this, but it's better than nothing. I traded Chrono trigger and got 11 dollars. I spent forty-five, and they are selling it for twenty-nine ninety-nine.
Meanwhile I got 20 dollars for NSMB which I got for free, so that's kinda better...

I don't mind it but there's a game shop in my town who sells obviously used gamecube games for more than retail price, this annoys my but used game shops are
usually a good opportunity to save on games.

Yeah it kinda sucks, but it can be cheaper than buying it new.
Plus by selling a bunch of my old games, I managed to buy some new ones!

...People actually complain about buying used games? I buy used games whenever I can because they cost less. If it doesn't work, I can just return it and exchange it. It's a good deal as long as you yourself don't trade in a game for 10% of the original cost.

I didn't know there was a problem with uses games.

They sell used everything else from cars, to clothes, to, well anything at a pawn shop.


I often buy used games if I'm looking to save some cash.



And I don't tend to sell games to places like Gamestop. Unless I'm doing so to get rid of taxes on a game I'm buying or for one of their "Trade in 3 get one free" deals granted I'm not sure if they still have those.

Then you should sell it on eBay yourself instead of doing that via a shop which wants to earn MONEY with that.

or you can be a bro and sell it to your friends for a price in between like I did

Yeah. I do that too. That way, both friends profit. One gets more money but doesn't need to put up with eBay, the other pays less money and the friendship is secured on top of that.

I buy used all the time. It's usually just NES and SNES stuff, but considering my Slackers Cds and Games is really nice (they give me much more for selling stuff than gamestop or funcoland) I don't mind spending a little more than 5 bucks a pop for some classics.

There was also this wonderful place in the neighborhood called "GameLand" (sadly,went out of business and I think it was only in my area)- the guy running it had at least a million NES carts and he only sold them for $5 a piece. It was really sad to see the place go- I'm very suprised that he didn't get much business other than me. And did I mention that he sold me a boxed copy of Adventure Island (with the manual like brand new and the cart in mint shape) for $5? Really nice, but I guess he did it because I was a kid back then and it was rare when someone my age liked the oldies. :p
