First of all, I buy a 360. I enjoy it for two months, and get 100% on Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Now, I decide I should try connecting to Xbox live. I try for a while, and keep failing. My Dad and I end up getting to the bottom of it; the ethernet cable port was faulty. Now, my first reaction is that it must be repaired immediately. Dad says he'll find out what we can do about.
About a week later, he decides that rather than getting it repaired, we should just replace it. We decide we will just get the new one from our local EB games. One morning, Dad asks me to get some final details. I attempt to make it very clear that I'm not prepared to lose my 100% save file, and I don't want another one if this is the case. It turns out that the replacement 360 was a limited edition Halo 3 one.
I don't give two ****s about Halo, and even less some sort of a collectors item, but Dad says that we might as well because it's the same and it's all they've got. So, this afternoon, I'm in my room practicing my saxophone and he comes in and tells me what's happened. I go out to his car to get the new 360, excited, thinking this is the solution to all my problems. Words can't describe how wrong I was.
i bring it in, open the box, and the first thing I see is a new hard drive. At this point, I feel like someone just filled a boxing glove with two tons of bricks and hit me in the stomach with it. Two months of work gone. I'm very angry about this for a while, and so is my Dad, he knew that it was like this, but he didn't think I'd mind because he misunderstood what I was trying to say about not wanting to lose my savefiles.
After a while, I decide to take the more mature approach, just give up and continue without anything. I hook up the 360 to the TV. Everything is fine, all regular. Then I put the disk in. After about ten seconds of the 360 trying to read the disk, it just stops. A message appears on the screen "Eject Disk Drive". Once again, two tons of bricks, boxing gloves, etc.
It turns out what had happened was mostly EB games' fault. They convinced my Dad that they can't split up the "special looking" hard drive with its equivalent console, even though he insisted that they make an exception, they wouldn't, and he has to take it. The rest was Microsoft's fault for making a faulty system.
Anyway, we're going to get it "repaired" but I'm sure it'll take like 3 weeks and be completely not worth it. I've lost my save files, I've received a brick, and I feel cheated. Really cheated. I worked hard to get my ranks in BK:N&B up to TT standard. Nobody seems to understand what it means to me, and if I do it again, it still won't be the same experience.
I don't want to do it again, that why I never just erased my save file in the first place. This is entirely EB games' fault for selling me a faulty system in the first place, then selling me another one that's even worse.
tl;dr: I bought a 360, got 100% on BK:N&B, decided to get live, found that it wouldn't work because ethernet cable port is busted. We take it in, and get back a brick disguised as a halo collector's item (The reason they didn't just give back the original HDD in the first place), without any save files and the inability to read disks. I'm really angry, I feel cheated, I hate EB games.
