Doing so would be foolish, for it acts as a spiritual gutter, that helps keep our sins in check.

If we were to eliminate it, chaos would quickly leak into every remaining crevice.

the CCC isn't a spam board
what exactly it is, I don't know, but it's not a spam board

see that woulda made a good warning to send to them BEFORE BANNING THEM.

**** do we really got bring back the warning system now? this is the second time warns were not given out before a sudden questionable ban,

If you wanna make an example,

make a topic saying "THIS IS ILLEGAL YOU KNOW" declare you are now going to start cracking down on X and if people fail to read such, give them one warning not to screw up again.

sure we got a rule set, but no one reads that, it's the instruction manual to a new videogame you've been itching to play, but get this, to read it you gotta go through the same load screens as the rest of the game, no one's gonna check that when they could just play. Even Police let people go with just a warning for minor offenses,

it's all about avoiding confusion like this from happening.

You break the rules (which [omfg!] are made by the staff) and then we warn you if it's your first time or yadda yadda, or we ban you if you're a repeat offender.

you all get your heads tied up in knots too much. by the way yes there is a certain 'way' which can be classified as 'bad' posting. this is supposed to be understood by reading the rules but since everyone always says they're terrible the only conceivable way it's gonna get through your head is topics like these OR actual bannings (hi there banlog!)

actually zash is outta town right now and probably won't be back until he's unbanned.

On another note, it might be a good idea to maybe set bans to start the timer from WHEN the post was made, not when the mod finds it. this'd only really be a problem with these new trendy 12 hour bans I'm hearing about but still..

Anywho if someone'd tell me zash was sent a warning about reaction images,

then failed to heed it, I'd shut-up.

But... knowing black squirrel.... he probably didn't see the knife coming! huh.gif huh.gif huh.gif

I actually IM'd him a bit after the post (ten minutes maybe? idk) and I got no reply, and his status wasn't set to away or anything :/

also I kind of endorsed the ban. Don't take it personal though, i mean he can still post when he gets back.

Avoiding confusion is more the staff's responsibility, through COMMUNICATION and CONSISTENCY. You cannot suddenly become CONSISTENT with just a few members on a random occurence of the offense. You must be CONSISTENT all the time, with all members, or the members will think said offense is within the rules and for that reason alone I think these bans should be reversed and they should be left off with just a verbal warning until next time.

When you allow something such as trivial "reaction image" spam (which is really harmless) to go on for so long (it has, and in more forums than just the CCC) and then all of the sudden start banning a couple of people for it, of course people are going to be "tied up in knots". It makes no sense at all that you don't expect any sort of outrage or repercussions to come of this. Referring to members as being childish for being upset with sudden amendments is kinda crazy.

None of the moderation staff or members seem to be on the same page as to what they consider to be spam, thus it doesn't get enforced consistently, thus members always get away with certain types of spam and begin to expect it to be within the rules. This is the case with reaction images, at least.

Imo, banning for gray area rules such as spamming is a bit much anyway, unless it is to the extreme. But yeah, despite how ridiculous, it is up to you to decide who gets banned for what silly things. =)

i really am sick of all this completely avoidable drama

i mean, i love this place, but people need to seriously chill out - that goes for everybody

Honestly, I think that the CCC is being over-modded. For the first time in my life, I was actually afraid to post there today, because now I have no clue what's banworthy and what isn't, and what qualifies as spam. I came to MFGG for very little reason at first, but when I started getting into the community, everything here became more fun - a lot because of the PPP, where anybody could post anything they want (obviously not porn or something but that's a given) and just have a good time. Now, we can't even post reaction images in a topic about them? I just don't get it! What harm are they doing, who doesn't like it, what's the problem? Same with troll ratings - yeah, they shouldn't be posted during serious discussions, but in the CCC, who cares? They're not causing any kind of disturbance at all, and the fact that someone can be instantly banned for such a small thing is ridiculous.

Personally (which probably means nothing but still), I think this place needs to lighten up a lot. Everything is getting way too serious when it's completely better off being relaxed.

And don't take this post as dissing the administration, I think they're doing a great job and have some of the best members here involved. I just think things are starting to become overly dramatic because of unnecessary things.

this combined with the extra attention the administration is getting is the source of all this drama these days,

Most folks now'a'days think of BS as an evil-overlord, Kritter a dr.cox except without actually saving any lives, and djy as a perfect mod who can do no wrong,

Heck sure the mods and admins are a wacky bunch and hell yeah they've been tightening up,

wait, were was I going with this?

I also think that getting too strict with all the wrong things is the real problem between the members and moderators. Maybe members wouldn't be so quick to complain if all the instant bans weren't so ridiculous and trivial. To be honest, I've always hated instant bans. The old warning system was so much better. You banned people instantly only when necessary, or when they ran out of chances and had to earn them back.

Being banned instantly for something as small as posting a reaction image in a topic about reaction images would have pissed me off too.

yeah, there was time when this one strike ban system worked wonders,

but there was also a time when sux no jbl was a meme and we had blaine the train attacks,

those times are over now, a warning system, as us sheep will now all agree on, is quickly seeming like a good way to patch this whole thing up between the mods and members,

All the old warning system needed was for the moderators to pay attention to those who didn't seem to give a **** when they got warned until they were down to their last chance. It is usually easy to see through such people as those anyway.

For the record, no one was banned for that. I mean, you can't really see why Crashman or Zash were banned because the posts got deleted/moved/whatever (the point is they're out of sight), but it wasn't for posting reaction images in a reaction image thread.

btw, imo adding a warning system would also help show us members that you guys sometimes listen and consider our ideas wink.gif
instead of coming up with your own wacky ones with no chance for opinions D:
