Been playing around alot with the Mario model from Galaxy, also added a nice falloff effect on him ;)

Hi,
Last time I posted here, I was working on the project 'Super Mario B3D'.
I got really tired of using the very outdated, static language Blitz3D, so I just gave up.

Now I'm back for more though, and this time around I'm using BlitzMax & C++ which makes it ALOT more flexible and faster.
I've been playing around with it for some time now, and this is what I've got so far:

Realtime shadows, Physics, I've ripped alot of models from Super Mario Sunshine which I'm working on improving with Bumpmapping, shaders etc.
I'll release a small showcase demo in a few days, you must have a decent computer though. (Shader Model 3.0, OpenGL 2.1, GLSL 1.20 is required from your graphicscard.)
Mario3D is just a working name, gonna come up with something catchy to name it later ;)

Thats amazing.

But, dont put graphics before gameplay, please. A lot of games do that.

I'm gonna focus mostly on gameplay, that's why I'm ripping models from Super Mario Sunshine ;)

It's going to be an Engine, and I'll create a game with it. And constantly add functionality to it :)

Currently, the levels are several objects named to different things.
So if you want to set a starting location, you create a cube and name it 0101.

3d non-paper mario fangames always tend to look impressive. I hope there's good gameplay as well.

Did you even bother to read the entire post? He said "graphics before gameplay," meaning "good graphics are good, but be sure to make sure the gameplay is equally good or better."

Retro is right. good graphics are good, but gameplay is by FAR the most important aspect of a game-more important then graphics IMO.

Thank you, retro, for clearing that up.

Yeah, You'll definitely be able to make your own levels even though it will require you to have some tools in the beginning.
Later on I'll probably make a level editor with LUA scriptable events/bosses.
Right now I have an hour or so of programming time, gotta work now! :O
