Hl2.exe is acting up, it's non-responsive

hl2.exe won't respond and let me play my gmod. I can get on it to the main menu, but when i try to load a previously saved map, it starts loading then stops at 40%, then the whole game is not responding.

When i ended the program, a bubble popped up saying that hl2.exe isn't responding.
I seem to be able to play Half life 2 just fine though, just not the other games. I was hoping someone knew what was going on.

Are you using Vista?
Its common for Vista to do this with hl2.exe, the solution I found for it to actually work was update my graphics card.

You should try waiting; Valve games tend to freeze during the loading process, then unfreeze after a few minutes

No, it's not a matter of patience. I left it to load, then came back an hour later and it was still at the exact same percent.

It does this when I play TF2.
I run on Vista, though.


But it only does it once, normally after we restart the computer, and then it doesn't happen until the next restart.

So try restarting?

Hm, I guess you could try a system restore to a point that it used to work.

Are your graphics drivers up to date? "Check the integrity of the local files" or whatever the option is in steam, it might not have downloaded fully.

what does it say it's loading when it freezes?

the game probably cannot find it

Reinstall Gmod?
