If you have just freshly bred a Pokemon and have not gone into any battles with it at all, just put it as the first Pokemon in your team and ask someone to have an IV "battle" with you.

http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calc.shtml

Check the Pokemon's summary and enter in the appropriate stats, nature, and other info. If a Pokemon has IVs that are very favorable for what it's for, I suggest keeping it and EV training it appropriately.

How to EV train: Every Pokemon battle you engage in gives effort points. The amount and type gained depend on the pokemon fought. Let's take a look at an example. Say you get into a fight with a Budew by chance.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/406.shtml

Scroll to the bottom, and look under "Effort Points from Battling it". It gives 1 SpA EV upon defeat to the Pokemon that downed it. That isn't too much. You'd have to fight 255 of these things just to max out your Pokemon's SpA. That's no good.

In order to boost gain, you can equip items such as the Power Lens. This will decrease Speed 50%, but will give you 4 EVs in SpA IN ADDITION to the EVs normally gained from killing an opponent. You'd get 5 SpA EVs just from killing a goddamn Budew. That's awesome! But it doesn't stop there. If one of your Pokemon gets Pokerus and spread it around your team, all EV gains are doubled. This includes the "Power ______" EVs. You can get 10 SpA EVs from killing a BUDEW.

You COULD train off of slightly more powerful Pokemon that give more EVs for a given stat, but the non-evolved forms are easier to grind off of with the Power _____ items cutting speed.

It sounds complicated at first, but it really isn't. If you want to know what some good sets and EV spreads for a certain Pokemon are, just visit Smogon and search for that Pokemon.

If you are unable to perform an "IV Battle", this IV calculator is also acceptable.

In what role? I'm going to guess as a lead due to the Focus Sash being pointless otherwise due to Stealth Rock all over the place. If it's not a lead, It's not going to be that great due to the mentioned reason and Hidden Power Ice not proving as good of coverage as the usual Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, and Tbolt.

ruins any sort of suicide lead, only thing that it doesn't seem to kill from speccing you on shoddy is swampert leads

which... aren't that common anymore lol

What improvements do you want for the regions in Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver?
  • Kanto gym leaders should present more of a challange than the Elite Four with higher level OU pokemon and more advanced tactics and strategies.
  • Cinnibar Mansion should be explorable, but the level design should be altered because of the eruption. Wild pokemon would be at their fully evolved form and lv. 50-55.
  • It would be awesome if the Unknown Dungeon returned, but the interior puzzles and structure was modified for more difficulty. Mewtwo would be at the bottom floor of the dungeon at lv. 70

This is very likely to happen, as they seem to be trying to make it so that DSi owners can get all of the Pokemon with Platinum and HG/SS.

Sure, I'm up for it. I think I'll bring in my Weavile and Metagross, or should I use something else?

That would be great. Are you running CBgross, Agiligross, or a bulky defensive set?

I'm going to set up Stealth Rock, so probably Metagross.
