| QUOTE (Dracon @ Jul 27 2009, 01:26 PM) | | I caught some pokemons so I could breed them and EV train them but I have no clue on how to EV train or how to tell whether or not a pokemon I bred will be awesome or not. Help? |
If you have just freshly bred a Pokemon and have not gone into any battles with it at all, just put it as the first Pokemon in your team and ask someone to have an IV "battle" with you. http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calc.shtmlCheck the Pokemon's summary and enter in the appropriate stats, nature, and other info. If a Pokemon has IVs that are very favorable for what it's for, I suggest keeping it and EV training it appropriately. How to EV train: Every Pokemon battle you engage in gives effort points. The amount and type gained depend on the pokemon fought. Let's take a look at an example. Say you get into a fight with a Budew by chance. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/406.shtmlScroll to the bottom, and look under "Effort Points from Battling it". It gives 1 SpA EV upon defeat to the Pokemon that downed it. That isn't too much. You'd have to fight 255 of these things just to max out your Pokemon's SpA. That's no good. In order to boost gain, you can equip items such as the Power Lens. This will decrease Speed 50%, but will give you 4 EVs in SpA IN ADDITION to the EVs normally gained from killing an opponent. You'd get 5 SpA EVs just from killing a goddamn Budew. That's awesome! But it doesn't stop there. If one of your Pokemon gets Pokerus and spread it around your team, all EV gains are doubled. This includes the "Power ______" EVs. You can get 10 SpA EVs from killing a BUDEW.You COULD train off of slightly more powerful Pokemon that give more EVs for a given stat, but the non-evolved forms are easier to grind off of with the Power _____ items cutting speed. It sounds complicated at first, but it really isn't. If you want to know what some good sets and EV spreads for a certain Pokemon are, just visit Smogon and search for that Pokemon.
