Stephen Totilo is a moron man - the most appropriate comparisons to this game would be Diablo (just general game mechanics), Fallout 3 (genre only, this is more shooter than RPG). The WoW stuff only even applies because you get quests - but HERP DERP Totilo is not a very bright man and to him that instantly equates it with the only game he probably plays in his free time, World of Warcraft.

I've heard comparisons to some older games as well, like Deus Ex. I don't think that's an altogether appropriate comparison either - to sum up the game better

- Get cooler guns to shoot **** with
- Continue to shoot ****

The graphics are really distinctive too, which seems to be what has sold a majority of people on it - good graphics, better guns, etc.

As for the FPS/RPG hybrid, that's cute that you can remember things, it would be naive to assume that any game is creating something truly genre bending these days.

from what i can gather, the content creation system just determines the weapon properties, not the actual models.

they've said they found a pistol that shoots shotgun shells, and if they can manage to find a minigun that shoots fireworks or some **** i would be sold.

It's more like DY said, weapon mods are driven by the models for different gun parts. If you look at some of the earlier videos in particular the debug cheats are used to show just how different all the weapons can look. You will definitely recognize similar guns but again that's why this is closer to Diablo than WoW, because of the way item mods are generated, but with more visual differences between them than either game.

Comrade Roladka, to you I say ... ?!?! That sounds like a pretty cool job, though I assure you if you got any email it was spam

@Dark Yoshi Usually it has little to do with reasoning, more like a game company is working on the console versions as their primary target. Although all work is going to all three platforms, there are platform specific issues that pop up (different online interfaces, memory breakdowns) that have to be kept track of, when these things cause an issue, it becomes a platform specific bug. So regardless of the engine, whether we're talking Batman, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed II, or Borderlands, the PC specific issues are the last that you get to. And that's just because of the projected sales on each platform. PC games are seen as a dead medium to most developers, the only reason most console games get a PC port these days is because the engine itself has few obstacles to porting it to PC. At any rate, these things cause delays, but the proof in how unimportant they are is that the delay is never more than like one to two weeks.
