Due to the very old and somewhat broken nature of our current message board software, Mario Fan Games Galaxy's message board will be shutting down within a month or two. There is no exact deadline, though the best guess will be towards the end of August. Most definitely by the end of September.
In its place, a new board will emerge, one with significantly better features that is linked very closely to the main site. Instead of the six year old Invision Power Board 1.3 software we use currently, the new board will be using a highly modified version of PHPBB3 (hopefully 3.0.6 but certainly 3.0.5). Many of the flaws and problems this board faces on a regular basis will be gone, and we're working to bring things up to a much better specification
Most of the important board features will be retained, such as badges, most of the layout and
some of the skins. You should be able to log in via your main site account meaning there will only be a need to register on MFGG
once. These IPB forums however, will be scrapped.
There will be no return of the "Casual Conversation Castle", and there will be better methods of rewarding the good and punishing the bad. Other forums such as the submit-it and general friendliness will be axed too.
What is important is that
we will no longer be supporting Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. Though some parts of the boards will still display correctly in that browser, your experience will be heavily gimped if you continue to use said browser.
If you're using Internet Explorer 6, the only advice I can give you is to
UP-GR-A-D-EWhen MFGG 3.0 is released this too will not support IE6 (though this probably won't be for a long time yet). And didn't I hear sites like YouTube were stopping IE6 support too? Either way upgrading is your best option for both you and the internet as a whole. Website designers across the planet are simply getting tired of having to install fixes to make IE6 display pages properly, and in a lot of cases, those fixes just don't exist. Don't want to upgrade? Fair enough, but don't be surprised if some features don't work for you!
Though this is very much the end of an era, it also marks the start of a bright new one. We understand that there will probably be a few individuals less than impressed with this move, but the opportunity always exists to fork your own community instead of re-registering on the new board. Many changes will be put in place, some of which I will be able to describe in a bit more detail closer to the deadline, however any major concerns will be best brought up with me via AIM or MSN or whatever. Do note that as the project is a work in progress, I may not actually be able to answer every question. Just make sure you agree completely with the terms and conditions (and rule set) that will accompany the registration progress when that day comes.
Just because we're moving software does not mean these forums are a new playground for bad behavior. Quite the contrary in fact - if you manage to get yourself into some serious trouble between now and then, you may find yourself unable to access the new boards!
On behalf of MFGG I would like to thank everyone who has posted and kept this current iteration of the forums going for five and a half years. It is quite an achievement, even if we have had our ups and downs. One thing for certain is that the new forums will not be made available until they're ready.
and don't ruin this topic plzthxbye
