ATTN: New forum software

For the past few months, the MFGG Staff have been hard at work on a replacement for the current forum software. We decided to do this due to the aging software currently in use, which has several unidentified security holes and has even spontaneously deleted a user's account.

We will be switching to phpBB3, which is a much more secure and flexible system. A lot of the work has been towards modifying the code to meet the standards and needs of MFGG.

The forum structure has not been finalized. Neither has the decision to keep any legacy ban lists. Though it can be safely assumed that the one forum that will not make it is the Submit-It forum, which is largely a legacy forum that has since been surpassed by the Taloncrossing Site Management System currently in use on the MFGG main page.

The look and feel of the new forums will be largely similar to what you see right now, except cleaner. We will only have a few select skins available at launch, and proceed to port/create new skins over time.

We estimate that the earliest we will launch is by the end of August. At that time, this forum will be turned into an archive, meaning you can still see your posts and read your PMs, but you will no longer be able to make or edit posts or private messages. During this time it is wise to consider backing up your private messages. (There is a page in the UserCP that allows you to export and archive PMs as HTML files)

A previous announcement said that there would be a link between the main site and the forums - this is not true. You will have to re-register.
However, the statement that the new forum is incompatible with Internet Explorer 6 is true. Please consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 or picking an alternative web browser.

We will release more details as they become available.

So this is a little clearer, I think this is a good move so far.

phpBB3 is a good choice.

So can those of us who have made skins have access to or be given the standards that PHPBB requires to modify and port our skins?
