So how do we know when the new board is launched on the web?

Will you, like, make a post before the archivelization stating the URL and date of launch?

This is nothing new to me. A similar sort of thing happened on Marriland's forums, which I used to frequently visit and still do from time to time. The difference, however, is that this time I am aware of the forum upgrade before it has happened.

Just a quick thought regarding a concern about the removal of the CCC: just because we have a forum for general chat doesn't mean it has to be called general chat. Heck, the new general chat forum could be called the Casual Conversation Castle (not recommended though) or a similarly informal name like Food For Thought.

One more point I wish to make (if it has not already been made) is that assuming they have no objections, all the mods should have moderating powers in all the forums, not just one or two as it is at the moment.

i'd assume the new forum will be put up on archive.mfgg.net and the old one will be archived elsewhere, like archive.mfgg.net/ipboldarchive/ etc or something

This actually sounds like a good idea.

The re-registration thing is kind of a bummer, but I assume that can't be helped, and will weed out anyone unactive as well.

Well, if it's going to be moving to something more solid, then it's for the best and I have no complains whatsoever.

But I saw 'post count 'and 'registering date' popping up while looking at this thread. While I understand some people want to say "hey, I have been here for long" as for registering date, I see both of those to be, well, pretty useless (you have, say, 30000 posts. So what?). It's not that having a ultra high post count gives you a status among the others.

As I said when M:FM switched to phpBB, I really don't like it. I think SMF is a better and more flexible system, and a lot closer than IPB than phpBB (plus, the templates for skins can be edited using PHP, as opposed to the pseudo-HTML whatever the hell it is that phpBB uses). But, whatever, I really don't care what system the forums use. Although, please, please don't use the default-styled skin with right side profiles and everything that looks crazy and such.

I'm guessing there will be some staff alterations as well.

We (actually, I) have expended a tremendous effort to transform the subsilver2 template into something that closely resembles IPB 1.3. And since we're porting several of our existing skins, it'll look almost identical.
