Ah, okay. Okay, but I still don't like phpBB's way with templates. =P

Also, our decision to use phpBB was made over a month ago and we're staying firm to that decision. We've spent a lot of work now transforming it to meet our needs.

We came very close to using MyBB as our platform due to its similarity to IPB and rich feature set, but ultimately I feel MyBB's foundations are weak, and its security history is a testament to that (I also gave Techo a proof of concept that anyone with the ability to edit skins can use the PHP-templates to steal the database credentials).

I don't have immediate experience with SMF templates, but if they are like MyBB's PHP templates, I think they're a horrible system.

I feel the phpBB smarty-like templates are both very safe and very flexible, neither of which apply to MyBB.

what about the ads by google at the bottom of the topics
are they staying?

also will IRC remain the same?

Oh well there you have it, it's out and I can sleep easy at night.

I've never used MyBB, but SMF is just raw PHP with variables to apply to certain values ($message['member']['username'], $message['message']['post'], etc.)
And they're in functions which are called at certain times. SMF is also very secure (or at least, I've gotten positive remarks on it), and has updates often. I will admit that some options (such as setting groups to forum moderators) are missing, where phpBB has them (and on a place like MFGG, you would rather go with that).

To be honest, I liked that mostly because the HTML + pseudo-code in phpBB is odd and non-standard. But, if it all looks the same, then I guess I don't care what system is in place. In fact, I bet the staff will notice more of a difference than anyone else (the admin CP), since I know it operates differently than phpBB. Props to being able to replicate the IPB template, though.

wait, why are we losing our badges again? I didn't read through all the pages but people are saying "onos my UHH".

Is the badge system going? If not can't you just carry over the UHHs?
