I highly doubt the admins are going to want to sift through hundreds of PM's just to give people a post count that doesn't REALLY matter all that much. It's your posts that matter, not how many you can make in a day.

So basically, you're not going to do it because you can't be arsed to do it?

QUOTE
Reset all posts and joindates, then, when you've rejoined, pm admins/mods/whoever if you want to get your post count & join date manually synced (spelling?) with your old one. Agree?

This should just be mandatory.

*shrug* If you don't like it nobody's making you re-register. It's not my board nor is it me who's setting it up so go get mad at someone else, or better yet, don't get mad at all and accept it.

The idea of the new board is to start from scratch.
This means you get to start with clear banlogs, but at the same time it means you start with clear post counts.
Do post counts really matter that much to you?

You're already getting your badges, which should be the only things that really matter. If you want people to know how many posts you have just provide a link to your old profile in your signature or write the number of posts in your custom member title or something.

If you name me a couple of good reasons why post counts are so important that they need to be taken over to the new boards just like the badges, then maybe. But I don't know any good reasons myself.

My (only) answer for why post counts & join dates is wanted is that you can easily see if the member has been active on the forums, and how long he/she has been around here.

Also, will the wiki change?

Plenty of members around with low post counts who've been here forever. On the flipside, Raie had tons of posts in the first month she joined here, post count isn't a good indicator of anything whatsoever. All it serves is bragging rights, it's honestly nothing that's needed.

as we all know, there are some people who have a bad and unfortunate history and who want to start anew, leaving that behind.

However, there are still some of us who are proud of their history here and want it to show. I believe that those who would rather keep it should get the chance to show it.

I think that those people who want to do so should be entitled to their happy heart., because they worked hard to maintain of and deserve to keep it.

Or you could give those who "transferred" over from the current MFGG should get a badge showing that they came from here (unless that's too stupid to do)

Żou've got a point there

Oh, and will "important" topics be ported? Like the mfgg wiki topic, the name change log, the "bage guide", and the CFP forum?

The CFP forum will be started from scratch, it could however contain a link to the old CFP forum. This gives us also a chance to re-organize and clean up.

The Namechange Log is only one post, so it's always possible to repost it, and the same is with the badge guide, I guess.

The Wiki topic isn't that important I think, except for the first post maybe, so here's the same as for the above two.

Well replace 'you' with 'administration team', then. I thought that it would be obvious that I'm addressing the whole lot of you. Another quality 'I'll ignore you, have a stock answer that doesn't really answer your question' post from the admins.

No (seeing as I have a small amount), but I can see why others with larger post counts would be annoyed. After all, it's still MFGG, so there's no reason to ignore one's contribution to 2.0. Also, what about people who already have a clear banlog? Seems a little unfair on them (not to mention that a clear banlog means **** anyway; you're still going to take 2.0's banlog into consideration when banning people on 3.0).

Got it

And we'll still be able to log in to the "old" mfgg, and search for posts and stuff?

Here's an idea: why doesn't everyone put their join date and post count (as of the moment these forums become archived) in their sig on the new forums?

I see your concerns, and your reasons, and they're better than I expected.

However you must know that it is a lot of work to transfer post counts and join dates for everyone. It's not just a matter of "press a button and whoop-di-doo it's done". We have to manually check through every single member who registers what his post count was before and replace it.
It's already a lot of work to do that for the badges and will take a long time.
When I have to weigh badges against post counts, then badges clearly show more about the member than post counts or even join date.

As said, I see your reasons why you and others are proud of their post count/join date, which is why we're trying to find a solution. But no guarantees here.

Also a reason why we didn't plan to port post counts or even join dates is that we had a lot of "I'm better because I'm a 05er" in the past. And that kind of join-date/post count elitism isn't what we want.

Also in the case your post count and join date will not be ported and/or acknowledged at all on the new board, you still have the possiblity to put that in your signature or custom member title, like mariobro said.

Well I guess you have a point with the elitism, but that will come back in a couple of years, inevitably. I can live without join dates, because they serve no real measurement of anything important (i.e. 'year joined' does not vary one's ability to post well and frequently). If you're going to lose the post count because of the reason 'it's too much effort', then I'd suggest making some sort of recognition badge for members that were part of 2.0, or something like that. That way, the badge serves the same purpose of giving deserved recognition to the contribution that MFGGers had made to 2.0 (which is the ultimate purpose of post counts, imo), without going through the tediousness of entering in post counts.

Perhaps you could just put an optional profile field for the original join year. Make it a drop down box that only goes to the beginning of the forums. Isn't it like 2000 or something like that?

To everyone who has problems with letting post count and join date go, I think I have a solution, but it's a surprise for later.
No guarantees that we'll really do that, as this is at this point only an idea with some concepts behind it, but I can see it happen.

So, no more complaints about post counts pls :3
And no questions. As I said, it's a surprise.
