Sprite Competition #168, Mario's not going it alone this time!

First off, I'd like to congratulate 404_not_found for getting second place in the previous competition, as well as SonicProject, Funky, and Flamedragon for getting in the Fab Top 5! Also, to everyone else who entered, you all did a great job!

Okay, now for the more important stuff!

You know the first two Paper Mario games (and I guess the third as well)? You know those guys that follow Mario around and help him using their useful abilities, like giving info about locations and enemies (Goombario, Goombella), blowing up blockades to move on further (Bombette, Admiral Bobbery), hovering over large gaps to reach items out of reach (Kooper, Koops), and even doing crazy things like lighting up your path in dark rooms (Watt), and hovering across spiky pits (Lakilester and Yoshi Kid)?

What do all the names in parentheses have in common? Yep, they're all some of Mario's partners in the previous Paper Mario games. I know I left the Pixls out, so they fit in this category as well. You're probably expecting this to be another character-themed comp, but that's where you're wrong!

Which is because the theme for this Sprite Competition is...

Making your own Paper Mario partners!

RULES:
- You can use any species from the Mario universe and turn one of them into a friendly ally for Mario. They're not limited to enemies though, so characters like Toads, Piantas, and even Beanbean Kingdom residents are acceptable.
- Be creative! Which means, no yellow-hatted Goombarios and no red Bombettes. You must make your partner have an original flair to him/her.
- Your sprite must have at least one animation.
- No size limits, but don't go overboard.
- No color limits either, but as stated before, don't go overboard.
- Your sprites must be usable, for fangames and such. You can even mimic another style if you want. *coughPaperMario64cough*
- You can make more than one partner, but as stated twice before, don't go overboard!

Voting will start... September 2nd, yeah that sounds nice. You've got
roughly two weeks (14 days) to get your entries in!

I've never actually played any games of the Paper Mario series (with the exception of Super Paper Mario, heh), but I guess I will actually give this a shot.

Tophat, Piranha Plant

A piranha plant Mario met at a circus or carnival of sorts that is seeking revenge for being sent away by Bowser. It can spit flames! It can grow a bit and allow Mario to reach higher places! The status of the sprite is currently: WIP, but I am posting this to get a placement into the comp if I don't finish this.

why jhave you sprited an enemy. its not limited to enemies! but if youve done an enemie, does that mean pther people can do enemys?

bombette was a bob-omb, still a helper :P

The helpers in Paper Mario have always been variations of classic enemies.

does that mean that we can do the classic enemies?

Question: Are we allowed to do the Donkey kong animal helpers as one, i say this because the Donkey kong and Mario universes usually seem to be linked.


Or is this limited to mario specific characters?

As long as it is done with something original about it.
