| QUOTE (Paji @ Aug 25 2009, 01:38 AM) | The ol' 6 string, no. It's still in repair hell. The pickups finally died completely the other day too.
My 4 string is fine though. I just want to get some new strings for it.
Also I've played the drums since forever, I just recently got not sucky thanks to Rock Band B) |
Oh sweet. I need to do that, as well, since my bass's strings are starting to sound twangy and that's never good. Was playing "American Woman" with my bro Matt the other day and I popped the D string and it sounded funky.
Also, rock band drums: the only instrument that takes actual skill (don't ANYONE say vocals, since you can just go "hmmmmmmmmm" on the correct note and get 100% on those)!
| QUOTE (Mokun) | I'm pretty good at drums, but I'm tons better at guitar (4 year drummer, 7 year guitarist) The problem is that I'm also the only one who wants to sing and It's hard (but possible) to sing while playing the drums imo I also personally enjoy guitar more but the band's best intrests come first! |
Yeah, it's annoying how few people want to sing, too. An interesting idea would be a band where the lead singer was the drummer. The drums would be a tad simplistic, compared to other bands, but it would be a project I would support. This post has been edited by Chippermonkey on Aug 25 2009, 02:41 AM

| QUOTE (Chippermonkey @ Aug 25 2009, 03:34 AM) | Yes, and I wish more people understood that. I'm tired of people wanting to show off their "mad skeelz" on guitar, rather than working with the band as one unit (except in the appropriate spots!). I'm even more upset that more bassists seem to be frustrated lead guitarists, nowadays, and they're too busy trying to solo all the time, rather than realizing that sometimes it's a good idea to stick with the tried and true chording.
@Mokun: Finding a drummer is so dang difficult. That's why I'm personally wanting to learn to play them better. I can give up singing if it means helping out a band that I'm in as a whole. It'd be a huge change from playing rhythm guitar while singing, or playing the bass (either with or without singing, either way is so much fun), but it'd be worth it. |
yeessss you're so right
And personally, I don't find those incredible "MAD SOLO SKILLS" to be nearly as difficult as a song with awkwardly shaped chords, or a lot of different sections to be memorized. People that don't play instruments don't understand that, though, so when I tell my Dad or somebody that I can play Purple Haze, for example, they try to tell me how amazing that is even when I try to tell them "it isn't that difficult, and I'm not that good at it"
Also drummers are not an issue for me, my problem is finding a bass player.
Though I have a friend that plays tuba!

I want to get new strings for it because the previous owner of the bass obviously liked metal chugging and the strings are ridiculously heavy and hard to play on at times.
I'll probably ask for money/parts to fix the 6 string this Christmas.
@Glukom: Using tuba for bass in a rock band would be AMAZING.

Exactly!
I get so sick of telling people I play guitar because I always have to tell them that I'm more into playing those "oddly shaped chords" (and I'm darn good at it, too) than I am into those "mad solos" (which I can play, but not near as well). It's especially prevalent in the younger guitarists I know.
I get so conscious, though, when a good soloist is around. I know that most people are going to flock to them and praise their skills and wonder why I can't do that. Of course, that's when I show them some chord tricks that I've learned (such as simply playing a regular C and then sliding it up three frets, keeping the shape, to get a D) and then they like that sound, too. :P

Once you start explaining things too people, they start to get it a little more, but nothing would annoy me more than being the rhythm guitarist to an arrogant solo guitarist. I'd love playing what I'm playing, but nobody else would give a crap what I'm doing when the other guy is playing 3 notes in triplets really quickly to give the impression that he's an amazing player.
That's why I could only settle being the only guitarist in a band. Hey, tons of bands did it beautifully, and if I need more guitar sounds I'll overdub them in in the studio.
