And I want to sing but I'm embarresed to because I don't know if I sound good or not ;_;

Do you have a microphone? Record something, listen to your own voice because it sounds different to other people than it does to you when you are talking/singing/whatever, then upload it with that audio host I always use, and let us hear it.

We won't bite.

Or, I won't, I'm not too sure about those other guys.

QUOTE (Glukom @ Aug 25 2009, 01:53 AM)
Once you start explaining things too people, they start to get it a little more, but nothing would annoy me more than being the rhythm guitarist to an arrogant solo guitarist. I'd love playing what I'm playing, but nobody else would give a crap what I'm doing when the other guy is playing 3 notes in triplets really quickly to give the impression that he's an amazing player.

That's why I could only settle being the only guitarist in a band. Hey, tons of bands did it beautifully, and if I need more guitar sounds I'll overdub them in in the studio.

My only issue with overdubbing is that you'd have to get a soloist to play with you if you ever went live and the songs were famous for their solo lines, or something. Of course, you wouldn't actually have to, since they'd be YOUR songs, but you probably catch my drift.

Luckily the soloists that I've worked with in the past have all been awesome dudes and only solo'd where appropriate.

My favorite was this one guy (my bro Matt, actually) who literally held a D chord and just played those four notes, only deviating to play a line of D2 or Dsus notes, while I played Ds, Gs, Fs, Es, and whatever else on my bass. I just went nuts doing improvs and stuff. Had a great drummer, too. The rhythm guitarist was going back and forth between D and E, but we had him more as a background sound more than a main part, at that time. But yeah, a lead guitarist letting the bassist take the lead, and on the fly, even. That was great.

i can play that, simple song

Most Beatles songs are fairly straightforward though (especially the early Beatles songs), the beauty of simplicity.

The only time I would sing is if nobody else in the band would do it. I'd try it, at least.

BEEN AWAY SO LONG I HARDLY KNEW THE PLACE

@Glukom: Not all soloists are arrogant though! There are defenetly more of them then arrogant backup/rhythm guitarist (who are usually more chill) At my camp there was a 13 year old kid who thought he was the **** just cause he could play a pentatonic scale moderately normal speed with some slow-ass tapping arpeggios >:(

And by that time they should be competent enough to do that.

Of course not, some of my favorite guitarists are big solo players (Eric Clapton, Hendrix - though he was a great rhythm player too, most noticable on Axis: Bold as Love, etc.)

Oh man one of my favorite things to do is use a sus chord right before transitioning to another chord, or when I'm doing an improv finger-style filler during a quiet moment (see, I usually play in church, where 90% of what you do is improv anyway). They're so amazing. ;_;
