I've dones stuff like this, sounds great! It also sounds good just finger picking the notes up and down the strings with an acoustic, nice and clean and cool

That tends to be what I do.

I also enjoy strumming with my fingers and using my thumb to slap the E string on my acoustic to emulate a pseudo-percussive sound.

Never. MFGG is a big video game music place, and while there's tons of VG songs I can listen to and love (FF9's Battle Theme, The Song of Healing, etc.), nothing beats some good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll.
