"Human rights" is a relative term for some people, although I'm certainly in the camp that believes that some people should definitely be stopped from having children on purpose. If they have the children anyway, take the child away and send it to a family that would actually take care of them (and want to).

The real question is, is it human to have children?

I don't see having them as what should be considered.

Raising them is what matters to me.

Well it's hard to say, if you're saying that men should be able to get pregnant, or women should just be able to somehow create children when they want without having a man or something, I think that would not really be the best thing.

So I guess no, it's not really a human right, it's about evolution of the fittest, and so it's supposed to work that the best people for the race are to have children and the ones who are weaker or whatever aren't supposed to. I suppose that's the theory anyways, I don't really know, I kinda just made this up right now.


But yeah, if there is a blind and deaf woman with no arms or legs who wants a child, I don't think it would be in the best interest of the child, or the forward direction of the human race for her to have a child.

It should be a privilege, although there's not a lot we can do to stop idiots who can't raise a child properly from having children.

Hey you just made me think of something- you know how in Half Life 2 the Combine had that supression field that kept humanity from reproducing? The government should build one of those, but make it only work on you if you like, fail a parency test or something.

Totally impractical, I know, but it would be ****ing awesome to see how much money it would cost for the government to build a machine that emitted a freaking anti pregnancy force feild.

It should be a right to have (give birth to) children, and a right to raise them; however, if they are deemed bad parents, they should be able to have their children taken away.

Also, for those who are socialism-boosters AND zero-birthers: those two ideals simply cannot work in conjunction. Socialism depends on the younger, newer generations paying for the older generations, and without population growth, who'll give those older people money?

I'm split on the issue.

While I see that children are essential for humanity growing forwards, half the time the parents are just so goddamn incompetent that the children end up growing stupider than their parents.

Granted, I may be being a bit exaggerative, but it seems to reflect certain family's in this area.

My neighbors daughter is pregnant by the way, and going by the amount of yelling in that house, I don't see either of the two going very far.

i do not consider anything to be a right in the american sense i have a very different idea of rights and i cannot fairly comment on this issue

I think everyone should have a right start a family however they want. I have my doubts we're havinig any sort of population problem. What I do think is that people need to quit populating the same areas. Quit trying to group together in a city where everyone is shoulder to shoulder like a bunch of sardiens. Populate the suburbs, the country. Oh man there's a lot of room in the country.

Heck, I live near the country and near Houston, the fourth most populated city in America. Despite this, we don't seem to have any major problems when it comes to population.

Some may say it's worth the sacrifice of having a child limit, but I would not trade any one of my nine siblings for the world.

I do not see it as an individual human right to have children. There are plenty of reasons for a man to not have a child such as heritable diseases, overpopulation, inability to raise properly, and sterility.

It is a necessity for the entire human race to have children however, without them we would die out.

I believe that people who are unfit to have and raise children should not have them. Not "anybody can have children but we'll take them away," because then you end up with problems. If you have AIDS or some terrible disease, do not pass it on to children. If you want to abuse, rape, or murder children, do not have them for this purpose. If you would like to train your child to become a criminal, you shouldn't be allowed to have children. If you're a religious nutcase and would like to have children so you can pass down the nuts in your case, do not have children. That is all.

There is an issue with this logic. While I do too think there are people who really should never have kids in the first place, any push to control population expansion could be bad. There are many consipracy theorists such as myself who think the financial elite are indeed planning on implementing some form of population control / reduction. whether it be the swine flu vaccines, a dirty bomb, world war 3, or some other catastrophic manmade disaster.

To simplify: while mandating some sort of exam or evaluation process to permit those who meet the requirments to have children would probably benefit us in the long run. It could be used against the general public.
