New Forums, updated info.

Since the old thread was getting a bit old in the tooth, here's a new one with more recent information.

Trasher has taken the time to produce this neat little FAQ and here is it:




For the past few months, MFGG staffers past and present have been working on a replacement for the current forum software, due to it slowly creaking with age, security holes and bugs. This new version of the forum (which for the sake of simplicity I'll just name The New Forum for now) will make for a nicer, tastier posting experience.

SO, WHAT SOFTWARE ARE YOU USING?
We're using phpBB3, with a great deal of alterations to make it fit our needs. Don't worry, you won't suddenly see subsilver everywhere! Everything's nice and MFGG-y. But better, obviously.

SO THE SKINS ARE COMING OVER TO THE NEW FORUM?
Yes. Some of them at first, but I'm sure the rest will come in due time.

WILL THE NEW FORUM BE INTERGRATED INTO THE MAIN SITE?
No. You'll have to re-register your account.

WILL BANS CARRY OVER TO THE NEW FORUM?
No! We're starting off on a clean slate - if you've been previously perma'd and you are somehow still interested in posting here, you can come back. Though, if you are still a jerk you'll probably be re-banned soon enough.

WILL BADGES CARRY OVER TO THE NEW FORUM?
Not 100% certain yet. The current plan of sorts is that we'll try to carry over badges other than Happy Hearts.

OOH, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE NEW PPP/CCC WILL BE LIKE!
Uh, yeah, about that. There will not be a PPP or PPP-alike. Now, before you go all BAWWWW, know this: The General Chat forum will be loosened up a little so that the good CCC stuff will still be allowed, while spam and RII's goddamn spiders aren't. Forum Games get their own subforum once again, and it'll be easier to identify your sketches and WIPs.

SO, WHAT ELSE IS NEW?
Post Icons have been redone into nice thread tags, to make it easier to see at a glance what a thread's about. You can have Friend Codes, Steam IDs, Xbox Gamertags and PSN names in your profile. Instead of this News forum, there are Global Stickies that appear in every forum. The Wifi forum has been expanded into a General Gaming board. There's a few more, but either we don't want to spoil the surprise, or they're not 100% done yet.

SO, WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THIS FORUM?
It will be kept in read-only mode, serving as a grim memory of MFGG's past.

SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD! SO WHEN'S IT COMING OUT?
We have no fixed release date. We've been aiming for the end of August, but I think it's safe to say that isn't happening. :P It'll be released when it's done, basically.


STAFFING
- All currentl locals were promoted to globals, with the exception of Yoshiman who refused
- Nick Ainsworth is also Administrator
- Jazz and MechaBowser the Slag are moderators of Arts Board/Games Lounge respectively

Use this thread to discuss, suggest, and speculate! I'll try to answer questions where it's safe. Maybe other people will too!

Yay, no more spiders!

When searching for topics, is it possible to have the thread tag as a searching parameter?

Everything's gonna work wonderfully, except for the CCC/PPP removal.

But whatever, no sense complaining, I'll just wait until it inevitably gets reinstated.

As mentioned, the GC will allow the stuff that's good, while not allowing the stuff that's, well, the reason there is no PPP.

Wait, you didn't sound very specific at one point.

What exactly is going to happen to the Arts Board and such?

I am guessing there are sketch and WIP post icons.

No, I understand why it's not there, I just don't think the "relaxed GC" approach is gonna work. If I recall, this was tried once before, when the PPP was first removed, and there was was much complaining that the CCC was made in like a month.

Same thing is likely to happen here, but hey, it's worth a shot.

You can't please everyone.

There will be complaints.

No need to give in just because somebody is complaining.


But at the same time no need to punish someone for complaining. Give it time and you guys will forget about the CCC and grow accustomed to things if you do choose to stay.

if the CCC doesn't end up coming back, i can see a no complaining topics rule being added

and lots and lots of bans coming from it

I don't like the idea of global stickies

the last time i was on a forum with global stickies they just got really annoying to read through everytime you were looking at a forum

especially if they are going to literally replace the news forum!

Because once it's globally stickied they can't un-sticky it, right?

If the MFGG staff is smart they won't sticky any more than 4 threads at a time. Besides, each of the forums here seem to have 3 or 4 stickies, each, as it is, so it won't be a huge change.

people complained because we gave the members, from the beginning of removing the PPP, the idea that it was actually only temporary, and that it'd come back

Don't see the point of using the global announcements, IMO the News forum is way better.

Honestly I think the global announcement feature should only be used for urgent news and we should keep the news forum.

global announcements is worth trying out. I can see it as being annoying but I'd rather see it put through trial and error than my own assumptions.
