Oops... the MFGG Football Team lost last night 17-13 to the Pittsburgh Oats, a poorly-named team that generally plays good football. It was a tough, grinding game of hard-nosed, smash-mouth football. In other words, the teams didn't score much, and B.M. was punting constantly (7 punts, 45.8 average).
MFGG's offense struck quickly, galloping to a 10-0 lead in the first ten minutes. We were moving the ball efficiently and effectively. JetSetRaïn's touchdown reception on a short fade pattern led to a challenge that he had only one foot in bounds, but the call was upheld by the officials.
The rest of the game, however, wasn't as good. The Oats tied the score 10-10 early in the second quarter, aided by an MFGG fumble. No points were scored by either team in the third quarter. The Oats' switch to a nickel defense counteracted the extensive use of Seldeslim as a third wide-out.
Whoever coaches the team - probably VinnyVideo - is going to take some flak for the decision he made early in the fourth quarter, allowing Matt Thorndark to kick a 42-yard field goal (which was successful) instead of going for it on fourth and one. This put MFGG ahead, but Pittsburgh came back with a touchdown pass to their star tight end, Edwin Error, to retake the lead. With five minutes on the clock, MFGG's remaining efforts fell short.
MFGG had only one sack (from Moneyman), but allowed only two, which indicates better line play than in previous weeks. And yes, VinnyVideo had two interceptions (VinnyVideo's ratings are actually quite average; this is a mere statistical fluke).
This loss brings MFGG's record to 2-3, snapping the two-game winning streak. You can still join the team, but if you want a starting role, you'll have to act fast, since there aren't many starting positions left.

Sorry you haven't seen much of VinnyVideo lately - I've been busy with other stuff and had a problem with my computer's power cord.
Unfortunately, I don't have exact season stats, but I will calculate some things at the halfway point and end of the season.
MFGG 27, Los Angeles 20!
The Los Angeles Looters struck quickly, scoring on a 20-yard streak on their first drive. MFGG bounced back with a field goal by Matt Thorndark, followed by a forced fumble from Doodle. This set up a go-ahead touchdown run from Nyafall early in the second quarter. L.A. came back with two field goals near the end of the first half, giving them a 13-10 lead at halftime.
The Looters again came out quickly after halftime, scoring a touchdown on a quarterback sneak to put them up 20-10. Despite a couple of terrible calls from the officials, MFGG marched back downfield before getting stopped near the red zone. We had to settle for a field goal.
Marigi led a great drive early in the fourth quarter to tie the game 20-20. MFGG put more pressure on the opposing quarterback and quickly got the ball again. After a couple of big runs from Nyafall, Dark Yoshi caught a 14-yard touchdown pass to win the game.
This was definitely our best rushing game so far - Nyafall ran for 146 of the team's 200 rushing yards. However, carrying so much of the load seemed to tire him out near the end of the game. We also won the battles of turnovers and time of possession - and as any football announcer will tell you, that's a good thing to do.
This win puts us at 3-3. This was the first time we've won an away game, and it was an important game to win in order to stay in the playoff hunt.

Cold. Windy. Sloppy. Those were the words that described the conditions for last Thursday's game at Chicago, which MFGG won 20-7. In the first quarter, MFGG experienced considerable difficulty stopping Chicago's power running game, leading to a touchdown. A Matt Thorndark field goal made the score 7-3 at the end of the first half. Nobody scored at all in the second quarter; a key drive for Chicago ended in a fumble inside the 20, which Cappy recovered.
The second half was all MFGG's. MFGG scored two touchdowns and a field goal while allowing no points. MFGG got surprising success from their obscure backup fullback. JetSetRaïn had an impressive game, too, with six receptions for 82 yards. Most importantly, Marigi had his best game so far at quarterback, completing 18 of 29 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown, with no interceptions. Plus, he had 29 rushing yards.
Again, however, pass protection was a concern. The line allowed five sacks, and we had only one (from Doodle). Our eight penalties was a bit excessive, too.
This win puts us at a record of 4-3. While the season is almost halfway over, it's not too late to join the team if you'd like. Only a few starting positions are left, though.
Thanks for the note, Thingy - I'll do that soon. Also, would you like for me to put you on the team, maybe at fullback?
