Last week's result:

New Orleans 23, MFGG 10

The game opened as a defensive deadlock, with neither team scoring in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, New Orleans marched down the field to the goal line. However, a strong defensive stand forced New Orleans to settle for a field goal. After the kickoff, MFGG made it deep into New Orleans territory with the help of a couple of big plays on the ground and a nice catch for Shroomguy. However, MFGG lost the ball on a fumble, and New Orleans followed up with a 55-yard touchdown pass caused by a blown coverage. At halftime, New Orleans had 10 on the board, and MFGG was still looking for its first points.

MFGG came out fighting after halftime. A nice string of short passes set up a field goal, narrowing the game to a one-score margin. However, after that MFGG again had trouble stopping the run and the short pass, and New Orleans scored another touchdown to bring the score to 17-3. The next drive ended in an interception from Marigi - something he doesn't do very often - that led to a successful 50-yard field goal for New Orleans.

The start of the fourth quarter saw another scoreless struggle until Marigi led an effective drive, where he scored on a 10-yard scramble. This tied the game 20-10. However, MFGG didn't see the ball again until the game was nearly over, and by then New Orleans had piled on with another field goal.

While this game didn't go that great (it was a loss, and to a winless team), not everything was bad. We committed zero penalties, and our pass rush was better; we sacked the opponents four times, including two from Mrmario.

MFGG is now 4-4 and two games out of the division lead. Our season is now halfway over, so if you're lucky, I'll include some season stats soon.

Sorry about the lack of updates - I was having trouble getting on to MFGG. Season stats are coming in a few minutes. Hang in there...

This is Thursday's result. Yes, there was a bit of a backlog.

Comeback of the year!

MFGG 19, Guam 16
This game, especially the first quarter, was dominated by the "D." The first points came on a touchdown pass to tough Guam tight end Robby Rumble in the second quarter. The Aircraft Carriers converted a field goal at the end of the first half to give them a 10-0 lead.

MFGG's offense really sputtered at the beginning of the second half. Guam scored another field goal late in the third quarter, and a costly fumble set up another field goal. By the start of the fourth quarter, Guam held a decisive-looking 16-0 lead. However, that lead would soon evaporate.

MFGG drove deep into Guam territory before a couple of sacks forced us to settle for a field goal instead of going for it on fourth and long. MFGG quickly got the ball back thanks to a Guam fumble, and Dark Yoshi scored on a 14-yard pass from Marigi, narrowing the gap to 16-10. Then, on the ensuing kickoff, Guam's stupid kick returner tried to return the ball from the back of the end zone, and Cappy nailed him at the five. MFGG stuffed a couple of rushes for no gain, and then Kevin Rudd sacked the opposing quarterback in the end zone for a safety. From there, Marigi led an efficient two-minute drill (or more like 2:30) that culminated in a last-minute touchdown pass to JetSetRain.

This win puts us at 5-4. Let's check out what we did well and what we did not so well:

+ Marigi had an OK game
+ Dark Yoshi was impressive at tight end
+ Forced two fumbles
+ VinnyVideo had an interception
+ B.M. punted very well

- So-so rushing game
- Fumbled twice
- Sacked too much
- Lost the battle of time of possession

Lastly, I put Vorxis on at fullback. If anybody doesn't want to be on the team any more, just post here or PM me. Likewise if you adopt a new user name on the new forums - just post or PM.
