QUOTE (MarioMK1 @ Sep 13 2009, 07:33 PM)
I don't think we should rely on governemt to do anything we can do ourselves in the private sector

we are obviously unable to handle healthcare, at the very least!

QUOTE (MarioMK1 @ Sep 13 2009, 07:33 PM)
, and I don't think the taxpayer should pay for it. Anything the Government does is funded by the people, and I'd rather pay for my own stuff if I want it than have to be forced to pay for everyone else's.
In the end you'll be paying for a better private sector as well. As the government ends up being the bare minimum, all the private business end up having to compete with that and be better than that- these improvements wouldn't exist without the government program as there'd be no need to have them.

QUOTE (rtsmarty @ Sep 13 2009, 06:37 PM)
why would the government make themselves better than the competition

the government has no reason to. it doesn't make a profit.

this paves the way for other companies to make themselves better. the government WON'T COMPETE. there's no reason for it to.

Unless of course the government wants power to control said industry by competing and being better than the other companies, then eventually phasing out the independent companies.

Actually, many politicians have already said that they want to phase out the private option, Obama included.

If controlling the industry means taking it out of the hands of people who purposefully avoid caring for the sick, then why the hell not?

Because the Government has more power than that. If they can control your healthcare than they can take it away, or force you to do things to keep it. I'm not saying our Government will do that, but there is potential for it to happen.

Hurp.

oh cool +respect to Obama

though to be fair, he's become more right wing since he's become elected. mostly out of necessity (single payer healthcare would be impossible to pass) but also because he tries to please hecklers who will never be pleased in the first place. Hell not to long ago it was going around that they were considering removing the public option from the bill- luckily people who wanted got up, said "what the ****?" and protested to remind Obama that people do support him.

Not in this bill, there isn't.

Complain when that actually happens.

there's just as much potential for that now as there was 30 years ago and as there will be when this bill gets passed. If they wanted to do that they would have to change things.

why is everyone so scared of socialism

Cold War propaganda outlasted the war itself.

Personally I think the worst effects that blasted war had on us were of our own creation, not the Soviet Union's.

you can keep your private health care if you want,

Like the rest of countries with universal healthcare (I have private healthcare |: )

that they won't ensure illegal aliens

You can't register at a clinic for general medicine as an illegal immigrant, you should be entitled to emergency medicine though. Denying this is heartless.

and that the money won't go to abortions

Totally religious issue you shouldn't be bringing up. Universal healthcare is about paying for what each person needs, and some people need abortions.

BTW guys, if you can get the majority of Americans on your side with National Health Care, then you've won fare and square. Until then though, the Government is supposed to represent the majority, and we don't think it's a good idea.

Government's watch, even to people in immediate need.

4,000 children not born in maternity wards is not an issue. The report makes it sound like they're being forced there, when in fact, it is just a statistic for births per year outside of hospital maternity wards.

That's the Daily Mail you're linking by the way.

"because of a lack of midwives and hospital beds."

This implies that there was not enough work force to accommodate the Women in labor, which is the responsibility of the Government to provide and pay for.

But this is likely to be a fluke that will be remedied by more spending to get more beds and midwives.
