Hello and welcome. This is part three in an infinite series of world concepts, ideas, and your position in them. Our previous topic discussed magic found through locations and personalities. This time... Imagine a lush world, where most enviorments are exaggerated. The cold areas are very cold, and the hot areas are very hot. It isn't the most modern age, but it's still somewhat advanced. Everyone shares one thing in common: The instrumental tool they use as a reflection of themselves, and a symbol of social status.
The entire world has just gotten out of an economic depression caused by many small mistakes along the way. To celebrate breaking the depression, and to possibly prevent another one, everyone has been given an instrument/tool/whatever to help them take advantage of the "New world". The "Goal" I suppose you could call it, is to record one thing of major importance before you die. As an example: A young man, maybe around 16-17, has been falling behind in his studies. He honestly has an interest in education, but he feels as though he'd be much better off finding it his own way. He drops out, and hops on the latest train going the farthest away. Before he left, he was given a drum that could "control" the gravity around him. He finds himself at an airport, and gets a one way ticket to Africa. (Jungle Africa with the crazy animals) He takes whatever food and water he can carry, and sets off in the middle of the jungle. He isn't looking for anything, however, he discovers an abundance of life. For the very first time, he pulls out his drums (Lets call them bongos) and plays. He unkowingly was using the effect to push down, and found himself in a hole. A deep hole in fact. At first he was somewhat afraid, but after looking around, he discovers multiple tribal treasures.
The example presented is incomplete and by no means perfect, however, I think it gets the point across. Your goal is to find your spirit tool, and take it from there. The tool is not unbreakable, and it may have the limits of every-day versions of the item...A "Darker" example would be a gun with bullets that drill into the skin, given to evil beings who live for the soul purpose of causing others harm.
I suppose my tool would be a harmonica with control over the wind. It could generate it and control the air around me. I'd probably use it for the power of flight, and hover my way over to Ireland to explore my roots hands on. After that I'd literally go where the wind takes me, maybe stopping every now and then to do the job we all have to do. Perhaps modifying my harmonica, or getting another item of interest to help me along the way.
These discoveries can be the kind made in labs too. Anything that contributes to the society in some way.
