Because the Japanese stole the Chinese idea of using symbols to represent words, and gave it a Japanese name, kanji. Jerks. :S

katakana IS theirs but it exists only to steal words from elsewhere

also katakana and hiragana are exactly the same, katakana is basically like italics or something

it doesn't really make sense to me that they wouldn't just make some type of italic or bold writing though instead of having to make a seperate alphabet with the exact same syllables

(katakana and hiragana correspond directly)

iirc, they sorta stole the concept of katakana from kanji as well, as they pretty much took some of the radicals/parts from the kanji and converted it into a 2nd hiragana alphabet.

QUOTE
everything in their language is stolen

It's not just the language. They pretty much took ideas from just about every other culture, cluster****ed them together, and somehow improve it (depending on how you look at it.)

People have technology? WE'LL JUST COPY THEM, BUT THEN MAKE IT BETTER DESU!

People have Christmas and Valentine's Day? WE'LL INCLUDE THOSE HOLIDAYS IN OUR CALENDERS. AND WHY HAVE JUST VALENTINE'S DAY WHEN WE CAN ALSO INCLUDE WHITE DAY SO MEN CAN GIVE WOMEN CHOCOLATE'S TOO DESU!?!

People have cartoons? WE SHOULD HAVE CARTOONS DESU! LET'S STEAL DISNEY'S IDEAS BY TOTALLY MAKING ALL OF OUR CHARACTERS HAVE BIG EYES DESU!!

People have porn? WE AREN'T JUST GONNA HAVE LESBIAN PORN! WE'LL CREATE PORN TO SUIT ALL FETISHES, INCLUDING PEDOPHILES DESU!!!

Pretty much, they've done nothing but try and copy every other idea known in existence, and improve it to be "better" or to adapt to their "culture", which also happens to apparently become a cluster of other cultures.

One thing they haven't improved: food proportions. It sucks going into a restaurant in Japan, only to find that if it's not japanese food, it's something that's somewhat smaller than it's counterpart.

hiragana's appearance is only a mutilated form of chinese characters

katakana is similar too; the only difference is that katakana's even simpler and has more straight lines

but both character sets are, graphically, heavily derived from chinese anyway

In fact, there are some kanji that are simply bigger versions of kana characters.

Guess what this kanji (three of the above kanji compacted into one character) means:

Ya, it shows the filename too, so I can tell too easily. (Anyways, I have known this kanji already anyways, so even without the filename I would know.) You can create a tiny URL or something to hide the filename, or just rename the file.

OMG HOWD YOU KNOW U MUST BE LIKE A JAPANESE PERSON OR SOMETHING OMFG SUPA KAWAII DESU

Dude, it's not like it was meant as a test -- and even if it was, I put the answer right there, which kinda defeats the purpose of it really being a test of anyone's Japanese knowledge.

Don't get too proud of yourself, now.
