Was trying to make a simple style. It's a bit meh, but I'd like a bit of opinion on how the style in general is.

It's pretty good, but it's really messy. Especially around the legs, I can barely tell what's happening. You also need to move his right leg forward a pixel or so.

the sprite itself is kind of simple and blocky and not really what I'd call a unique style or anything

It's not very striking, really. You've kind of got a lot of messy, oddly placed pixels too.

Also, for the animation: http://www.manningkrull.com/pixel_art/tutorials/walking.asp

I've been working with GIMP for doing transparent layers and stuff for shading, so apparently I messed up with the coloring layer. Now it looks a bit better:

That's the standing sprite I also made. I'll post the animation when I remake it.

I'll try that for animation. I was looking at the Mega Man sprite for 2-frame animation, and it didn't end up well.

Looks a bit better, but the animation still isn't good.

I do agree; it's impossible to tell what direction he's walking.

There's nothing wrong with the initial sprite at all, in fact I like it, but at this point I think you need to work on how he moves. I think you could give this a lot of flavor if you made the walk more cartoony and make his legs actually go in a cycle instead of just doing... whatever they're doing.

I can imagine it now- him bouncing up high with each step, flicking his arms, hahaha. As it stands now, the animation is too blocky and rigid.

Good luck, man ;D

I don't really understand why some lines are lighter than others, if you were going for dithering it was rather messily done, especially around the head. it makes it look jagged and not "smooth" like it's supposed to be. the colors are kinda boring too, but that may or may not be desirable depending on the art style of the game. (assuming this will be used in a game)

anywho, animating is always hard, and making a convincing walking animation is always a pain, especially if your sprite is minimalistic like this. it takes time, and a bit of creativity; have fun with it. make it wild and crazy, and over-exagerate the motions. I'd also suggest following the tips in the link ravan posted, very helpful.

good luck.

Basically, my idea for the style started with this:

Still needs some smoothing on the head and fixing the legs, however.

I've separated it into layers of grayscale which can have color beneath, which can be changed. The colors were just a placeholder at this point tbh.

But yeah, I'm still trying to tweak it.

It's alright, and a bit minimalistic and stiff like it's been said.

Work on moving the arms a bit as well!

Good luck!

Please work on the animation. You can blatantly see that he is only moving one leg.
Also, check out the tutorial Nystre posted. It's great!
