Since I can't post my idea in the main area due to lack of any evidence that this is in the works, I shall post my game idea here soveryhappy.gif This is a fangame that is mostly a sequel to SMRPG, with extras from the other RPG games. Anyways, info is displayed below:

Name: N/A (Still thinking of one...)
Program: RPG Maker XP

Plot: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad and Toadsworth are enjoying a sunny day at Mushroom Castle by picnicing in the courtyard when suddenly, Bowser appears with Kamek and Bowser Jr. in his Koopa Clown Copter. The sinister Koopa shoots two Klink-Links (The Chain-Chomp enemies from SMRPG that hold up the chandeliers during Mario's first battle with Bowser) out from cannons attached to the copter that take hold of Peach and Daisy and then retract. Bowser challenges the bros to come to Bowser Castle if they wish to save their beloved damsels. Mario tries to shoot Bowser with a Fireball, but Kamek casts a spell which teleports the bros in the middle of Toadwood Forest. After escaping the forest, the bros take a Warp Pipe to Bowser Castle and challenge the Koopa King and Bowser Jr. atop the chandeliers (SMRPG reference heavy). Before the bros can finish the Koopa monarchs, a rumbling shakes the castle, and who should crash through the castle but Exor. The seismic force that follows sends Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and Bowser off in five different directions. Mario comes to in the home of Goombario, who informs his former partner that a strange sowrd crashed down from the sky and shattered the Twilight Star in the process. He goes on to explain that the Twilight Star is the celestial object which keeps the Realms of Light and Darkness together, yet not mingling. The Twilight Star was shattered into nine pieces which fell to earth and landed in different areas. Now, Mario must find his friends, recollect the Twilight Fragments, and figure out why Exor has returned.

Playable Characters:
Mandatory:
Mario Mario
Goombario (Temporary)
Luigi Mario
Bowser Koopa
Mallow
Yoshi
Wario Wario
Princess Peach
Princess Daisy

Optional:
Geno (After collecting your first Twilight Fragment)
Waluigi (After Wario joins your party)
Birdo (After Daisy joins your party)

Battle System: Basically the same system that comes with RPGMaker XP, but with SMRPG elements (Status problems, statistics, attacks, etc.)

Items: All items from SMRPG (Excluding Key items), as well as new ones.

Extras: Several cameos from past Mario RPGs as well as non-Mario games, secret bosses, sidequests, sub-plot centered around Luigi, Daisy, and Waluigi, return of Geno and Mallow, Bosses, sidebosses, and enemies from SMRPG as well as the return of a certain boss.

Progress:
-Playable Characters all have special moves, equiptment and statistics figured out.
-All equiptment, items, accessories, weapons, badges, and key items data finalized.

So, basically, this is all I have so far. I'd go into detail about the items and moves (listing them) as well as enemies, but I don't have the time. So, what're your thoughts?

I like the idea but the use of the regular rpg maker xp engine, not so sure.
I personally think people will be very skeptical due to the fact it is made with RPG Maker (there was a rise in RPG's in August).

Kinda what FoxGuy said, RPG Maker XP doesn't seem like a good engine for a Mario game, considering how most, if not all Mario RPGs typically have some sort of interactivity in the battle. Eg. rather than just "Mario attacks" "Mario does critical hit!", it's "Mario attacks" "Player performs a special command and does a critical hit!"

Also, 13 playable characters? That seems a bit overboard, and some characters will clearly be neglected. Typically, 4-7 characters is a decent size, with 8+ pretty much pushing it, unless you're going for a tactical battle system.

Thanks for your inputs. I'd like to use RPGMaker2k3, but I absolutely hate its limitations =/ And I'm currently unaware of any battle system scripts I could put in the game to make it like M&L/PM style battling.

As for the playable characters, the 9 that are manadatory (Goombario is only playable until the player reaches Toad Town) each play a key role in the game. The three which are optional dont play a role in the main plot (completely shut out of cutscenes and there is no mention of them in the main plot), but they do unlock extra missions, a nice little sub-plot that delves into the relationships of Luigi, Waluigi, and Daisy, as well as have a nice assortment of moves, stats, and equiptable items.

The major thing that's holding me back from starting to work on this game is the lack of tilesets set up in RPGMakerXP format from M&L2...

Sounds interesting, but it's sure a lot of characters. I'm not a huge fan of standard RPGs, but what I've seen from RPG Maker usually hasn't been that thrilling for me.

Well, I may shave off a character or two from the manadatory list and just make 'em optional (Most likely Mallow and Wario). I do have some neat features I'd like to add if there's a good enough scriptor out there, like:

-Card System: Enemies may drop cards (Like Catch Cards) when you collect your spoils from a battle. These cards are collectable and are basically the game's form of past Mario RP's tattle logs. However, you can give these cards to Merlow at Shooting Star Summit and he can make them into 'Star Cards', cards which can be used to summon whatever creature you got it from to battle for you (Kinda like Summonings in FF).

-Mission System: Like in PM2, you can take on several missions as you progress in the game. Each mission gives its own reward, and some give way to sub-plots that can give some humorous, as wellas insightful info about the characters and such. I would like to include 100+ missions in the game.

-New Game+: Basically a feature in the game allowing you to play through the plot, but this time you can play it using an entirely knew set of characters (mostly): Mario, Goombario, Koops, Bombette, Vivian, Watt, Yoshi Kid, Sushi, Ms.Mowz, and Luigi. As well as different bosses, missions, sub-plots, etc.

Please use a better program (Game Maker, MMF, TGF, etc.). You'll get a lot of bad reviews and people not playing your game simply because it's made in RPGMaker.

Why so much hate on RPG Maker? And what program would you recommend as being the best for M&L-style RPG game?

RPG maker is strictly limited to RPG stuff (from what ive seen), unlike better RPGs like Zelda, pikmin, etc...

Plus, the games are all the same (or very similar)

If you make an RPG in an all-around game creation program, its bound to be somewhat better.

Also, good idea.

Game Maker (if you're low on cash) or MMF2 (I heard it's easy to use).

Still a bit iffy on your character line-up, and it doesn't really help that you just made New-Game+ a "second game". Then again though, now that I think about it, the Mario RPGs that I played never really had much background stories behind the characters who joined you. They were just random characters that Mario happened to bump into on his adventure. Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars had a bit of background behind the characters, and their motives were a bit more clear, but it was still a bit limited.

Now that I look at your roster again, however, I just realized that there weren't any ridiculously new characters, so story isn't an issue. >.> I'm a bit more worried about the moveset and statistics now. :S
