Well im taking a look to see how much watts my power supply can well supply and the only thing that I see resembling that is 200-240v - 3a. Sooo is that what I am looking for? Someone explain this stuff to me please because out of all the hardware crap I know I have the most trouble with this headslap.gif I know V doesnt = W so is there some conversion i have to do or am I just overthinking everything? X-D I need to know because I want to buy a video card

it should say it somewhere on the box itself, but generally an "x watts" supply can't even actually supply that much power under full load

otherwise the spec sticker should specify the different voltage rails and how much amperage each can provide; in this case watts is just volts * amps

you'll want to do research on the card, and find customer reviews because they'll generally mention things like "my x watt power supply wasn't enough so i had to get y watts"

but yeah char's link may help, because you also have to take into account your CPU which is going to be the next largest (or maybe even largest) power sink in your computer

newer mid/high-end cards need external 12V sources (plugs will usually be on the PSU if it's a high enough wattage), so you'll generally want to look for a PSU with a few tens of amps on its 12V rails

250W is barely enough for a plain computer without much in it nowadays. If you do stuff like Gaming, somewhere from 500-750W is recommended.
