No, he went crazy. *deep breath*

He was starting to crack a bit before issue #200. When Sonic beat him in that one, he went completely nuts, ripping out his mustache and glasses (allowing us to see his pupils finally). Snively took the opportunity to lock him up and call in the Iron Dominion, sub-bosses of Robotnik's from the east. Snively and the Iron Queen took the throne of the Eggman Empire and threw Robonik into a padded cell. He just uttered the override to get himself out, much to Snively's astonishment.

EDIT: Oh, wait.

The original one did in issue 50. The archieverse takes place in a multiverse that allows for inter-zone travel. Robotnik was destroyed in his world and Eggman (Robotnik 2.0) defeated Sonic in his world. Robotnik made the trek to the Prime Verse (where the comic takes place) because the zones became imbalanced without Robotnik Prime... or something like that.

Meh, I'll take the "too damn serious" Archie stories over the goofy-lighthearted stories any day.

Though it IS confusing. The original writers were sloppy. The new(ish) guy Ian seems to know what he's doing though. The comic has become much more coherent and streamlined since he took over.

A comic that featured him just running through loops would be boring. They had to anchor the character somehow. That's why they used SatAm as a base, but have since added on to it, incorporating Sega characters (Knuckles wasn't in SatAm, neither were Nack, Bean, Bark, etc), cartoon characters (Ixis Naugus, Scratch, Grounder), and comic-unique characters (Julie-Su, Mammoth Mogul, etc). It just makes it feel more like a world, rather than... well, the comic-equivalent of the "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" cartoon, which is what running through loops and fighting machines without anything else would be.

alright, let me put it another way

when I think of a Sonic comic, I think of it as being pre-cancellation Blue Beetle style, not soap opera crap

it should be a gag comic

Sonic is a teenager who likes to **** around and ruin Eggmans life; it could of been like a Bugs Bunny VS (y) thing in comic form

remember when you worked on some SEGA Genisis styled Archie sonic characters?
