QUOTE (Mrs. Aforcer @ Oct 2 2009, 08:55 PM)
Oh, thanks for misleading me; that really helps me understand your problem!

But really now:

Points 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 sound like pretty much any teenager (the time of one's life where many people get conned into believing they have psychological disorders and are convinced they must become dependent on sugar pills to be full functional in life). and the other two unmentioned points can be applicable in less, but still quite a few situations.

The fact it only takes three of these common (not to mention vague) diagnoses makes me skeptical already, as anyone should be when they go to a doctor or psychologist.

Extreme ASPD I imagine has a different name altogether.

Like sociopathy, perhaps?

so you admit that it's a real disease

QUOTE (wikipedia article on Antisocial Personality Disorder)
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD or APD) is defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as "...a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood."

QUOTE (Mrs. Aforcer @ Oct 3 2009, 01:44 AM)
Classical example of "IF UR DIFFERENT AND DONT LIEK BEING AROUND PPL AND ALWAYS TALKIGN AND GOING TO PARTYZZ U MUST BE SICK OR SUMTHIN??????"

These are two entirely different things.

It would help if you'd actually read the article before you linked it.

1) it doesn't matter what it's called if it's a problem
2) are you a psychologist? have you studied it for years, encountering vast varieties of people who have these problems?

You know nothing about the profession at all

How many times have you been arrested?

No. I didn't read the list in her post when I quoted it.

I'm talking about the one on this page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissocial_personality_disorder

1. Callous unconcern for the feelings of others and lack of the capacity for empathy.
2. Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations.
3. Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them.
4. Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence.
5. Incapacity to experience guilt and to profit from experience, particularly punishment.
6. Markedly prone to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior bringing the subject into conflict.
7. Persistent irritability.

Sociopathy? Mmm, perhaps...

I'm still pretty skeptical though., Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if I got diagnosed with it, and I'm fairly certain I don't have it.

It's not so much that disorders don't exist as it is that psychologists will find reason to diagnose people that don't actually have them with them for the sake of money.

People need to be more skeptical.

Though the whole situation is a lose-lose situation, because if you question the diagnosis, they'll diagnose you with another disease just for being a logical, critical thinker.

Well, whatever you chose to believe. There's no reason to continue this, I suppose -- we've both voiced our opinions on the matter, and it looks like neither of us are going to budge.

Personally I've always seen these disorders as self-fulfilling prophecies, so I suppose as long as you don't try to live up to the symptoms you've been diagnosed by, then it really doesn't matter. It's just good you're not falling into the trap of paying for sugar pills -- I can respect you for that much.

Read the symptoms.

Oh, wow! What a disorder you have there!

In the real world we call that: what a majority of all people do at some time in their life because most of those are actions that aren't very crazy!
