Derren Brown is a tool "magician" for non-brit people. He's about two steps higher on the wizard scale than Sisqo.

Actually, on the scenes where you could see the trailer the guy was in, there was a giant cheque ready to be handed over.

So I think it did go wrong.

But he was only one off.

I had a long and engrossing talk with my friend about the fact no casino would ever not notice someone winning that much off a single number and how the show would obviously end with him not winning. My friend predicted that he'd be off by one or two.

I should get a show were I predict Derren Brown's next actions just after he does them.

I know it's all clever trickery and ****, but this one seems easier to actually do than to fake.

The method he described is similar to a classic cheating technique used. One that is avidly looked for, if he would have won someone would have taken him aside (in a real casino which I doubt it was) and asked him various questions including why he bet on a single number, why he was doing certain things, followed by a search. On finding a camera I guess they'd break his knees.

To make it seem like it wasn't staged or to validate it in some obscure way.

Either way all his "Mind control" stuff seems pretty plausible, it just takes an understanding of the human mind and a way to exploit it.

Yeah when he persuades it's interesting to watch.

I find it annoying when he says "And I havn't influenced you at all?" (which is part of his influence technique) and then people around me claim that proves it's magic.

Yeah, that does sound a bit stupid.

But yeah, I'm sure he does do that suggestion stuff for real.

iirc the first show I saw him on he was doing simple suggestion in a party and just by watching it I was thinking every word.

The big stuff he does is just lame. Especially making dubious maths appear to be magic.

I've never heard him try to say that it's magic before.

Nah man, the people I'm watching it with. Derren Brown on his own is moderately entertaining. I'd still choose to watch old episodes of Scrubs or The Dog Whisperer if only crap TV is on though.
