Games can change style drastically over a year

An early screenshot of Metroid Prime had a completely different looking Arm Cannon model, and an earlier one was a third-person adventure

It's safe to say these aren't the final graphics.

I kinda had a similar reaction, but after seeing those animation videos I was soundly impressed. It could be wholly possible that the graphics style is saved by the intricate detail being put into the animations of the characters.
