I almost want this game.

Buuuuuuut considering it's potential content, the chances are slim.

I still love the concept though, and the creativity put into the world is amazing. biggrin.gif

Really?

That is indeed more than I expected from this game, especially considering what I imagine to be the target audience.

Hey, sorry for bumping this thread, but I just got done playing the demo.

What I expected: Pretty much expected this to be to video games what Metalocalypse is to TV shows -- funny, witty, and satirical with a pinch of good ol' metal culture. Didn't think too much about the controls since I figured they'd be pretty standard RPG-esque controls. As for characters, I foresaw parodies of metal icons as shown in the videos released earlier this year, general parodies of metal culture, and of course -- Jack Black (hopefully) being comical and hilarious. The graphics looked quaint -- not trying to be too realistic, but I could respect the cartoony style. Wasn't hoping for too much story, since comedy really doesn't need too convoluted of a background, just plenty of good laughs and fun times.

What I got: I guess I was expecting too much out of Jack Black -- or, rather... maybe too little, seeing as he talks over the entire game. I'm not even being sarcastic here, he literally talked over all the gameplay between the cut-scenes, and after awhile it just gets annoying to hear him babble on and on about the situation you're playing through -- I want a game, not the director's commentary. Oh, and only about half the jokes are really on-target, and the rest leave you with this sort of pained smile on your face where you wish you were laughing but you're not (e.g. my personal favourite was after you defeat this big vag-faced tongue-monster by, well, cutting off its tongues, Jack Black's character cleverly exclaims, "I guess you won't be French kissing any more LOL" to which the bland, stale-as-four-month-old-crackers female lead character responds, "What's French kissing?" and Jack Black's character says something along the lines of, "I'll show you what it is ROFLMAO"). Like I said, it's a little hit-or-miss; the opening cut-scene was interesting and had a few somewhat funny lines, but in the end I feel like there's more "misses" than "hits" in the comedy department, which unfortunately is primarily what the game had running for it. Aside from the humour, the gameplay's not bad I suppose. One thing that really frustrated me was the piss-poor driving control, though, and judging by the video released a few months ago demo'ing the gameplay, it looks like there's a lot of driving in this game. Perhaps I was spoiled by Halo's driving mechanics, but the fact that when you alter the camera angle, the orientation of the actual driving controls don't also alter, is frustrating as heck. I found myself driving more into walls than in the right direction simply because I had altered my camera angle to get a better view on something in my peripheral, and my car was driving off in some completely different direction. The attacking controls are a little weird too -- I'm not sure whether I'm playing Street Fighter or a metal RPG with all the button combinations to execute attacks. That's just personal preference, though. Graphics were acceptable -- not much really to say about 'em. At times, the cut-scenes felt a little unnatural (in the sense that the movements seems very... un-human), but perhaps I'm expecting too much? And I know I already mentioned this, but so far, the characters are about as deep as paper plates -- and the female lead has already irked me and I haven't even played the full game yet. I know the game promises to introduce more characters later on, I just hope that perhaps what they're advertising in this demo is actually not what's going to be in the game.

However, by all means, I encourage people to at least give this game a try -- especially people who consider themselves "metal-heads." If anything, it'll give you a couple of laughs maybe and a good 10-20 minutes of meek entertainment.

Verdict: 65%

Yeah I guess they couldn't just have a "Settings" submenu on the title screen.

That would be too conformist.
