Oh I thought you might of been referring to that, since a lot of people tend to not know their history (not saying you don't :3)

But it just annoys me when theres not much more racism in this movie than there was in Dumbo

The stuff we have now is just lame and unoriginal/related to gossip.

Those cartoons were crazy attempts at pulling good cartoon gags, but they went over the top with it to the point where if you weren't as crazy as them ALREADY, you'd probably just think it was weird.

Red Hot Rangers (1940s) A good George and Junior cartoon
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THEM

Really, it's not so much the racism that makes this movie bannable as it is the glorification of Southern life and slavery ideals. Disney thought it a bit tasteless, and rightfully so -- the South was hardly that endearing and friendly of a place at the time (especially towards black people), and to portray it as such was not only a lie, but terribly tacky and a romanticization of something that really is hardly worth celebrating or portraying in such a positive light.

To make a (perhaps extreme) analogy, it would be like making a joke or a light-hearted film for children about Middle Eastern extremists, and showing scenes of them reading precious bedtime stories to little American children and singing songs together. The irony of it almost makes it insulting to the people that have suffered, and the lack of realism is tactless. You just don't glorify institutions of oppression and racism.

You DO realize this movie takes place AFTER the Civil War?

I do, but anyone who knows anything about postbellum American history would know that the relationship between former slaves and former Southern slaveholders was anything but Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah cheery. To portray Uncle Remus as so endearing and affectionate to little white children is tragically historically inaccurate and completely brushes over the long-term effects of slavery on the black community at the time. It's downplays the social impact of slavery and pretends that it virtually never existed, which is to completely ignore the trials and tribulations black people had to endure -- which really is a historical spit in the face to them.

Oh, and you act like the Civil War ended slavery and racism completely. Huge tensions still existed between blacks and whites, and many Southern white folks straight up refused to accept that slavery had been abolished. From refusing to pay black workers to demanding they do extra work as employees simply because they were black, they were still practically treated as slaves in the post-Civil War South.

This movie is a gross misrepresentation of the era.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but historically speaking, it's a huge insult to the people that actually had to endure the period after slavery was abolished and the plight of black folk during postbellum America.

Most Middle Ages/Renaissance Films fall under the same category of "gross misinterpretation"

They do.

But they're gross misinterpretations in the sense that they get fashions, etiquette, morals, ideals, language, etc. wrong -- however, that's a little different than completely ignoring the effects of enslaving tens of thousands of people for hundreds of years based on race alone. Fudging a few facts about Medieval dress and court life is a little different than pretending black people were completely fine with what happened during slavery and became BFFs forever with all the white folks right after the Civil War ended.

One implies that massive enslavement is okay and completely forgivable. The other just shows the director's lack of research.

Talk about over analyzing.

If anything values like that are encouraging the races to come together, and we want to ban that?
