I know that already? |
Oh I thought you might of been referring to that, since a lot of people tend to not know their history (not saying you don't :3)
But it just annoys me when theres not much more racism in this movie than there was in Dumbo
| QUOTE (Mrs. Aforcer @ Oct 7 2009, 11:12 PM) | I dunno.
Seemed better than the bollocks they have now. |
The stuff we have now is just lame and unoriginal/related to gossip. Those cartoons were crazy attempts at pulling good cartoon gags, but they went over the top with it to the point where if you weren't as crazy as them ALREADY, you'd probably just think it was weird. Red Hot Rangers (1940s) A good George and Junior cartoon WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THEM

| QUOTE (Sparks @ Oct 7 2009, 11:33 PM) | You DO realize this movie takes place AFTER the Civil War?
I'm from the South and I related to this movie pretty well. :/ |
I do, but anyone who knows anything about postbellum American history would know that the relationship between former slaves and former Southern slaveholders was anything but Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah cheery. To portray Uncle Remus as so endearing and affectionate to little white children is tragically historically inaccurate and completely brushes over the long-term effects of slavery on the black community at the time. It's downplays the social impact of slavery and pretends that it virtually never existed, which is to completely ignore the trials and tribulations black people had to endure -- which really is a historical spit in the face to them.
Oh, and you act like the Civil War ended slavery and racism completely. Huge tensions still existed between blacks and whites, and many Southern white folks straight up refused to accept that slavery had been abolished. From refusing to pay black workers to demanding they do extra work as employees simply because they were black, they were still practically treated as slaves in the post-Civil War South.
This movie is a gross misrepresentation of the era.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but historically speaking, it's a huge insult to the people that actually had to endure the period after slavery was abolished and the plight of black folk during postbellum America.
