Wiimotes won't connect to Wii

I wish to install the Homebrew Channel but alas, but Wiimotes aren't functioning correctly and have no way to check which version I have (I know it's not 4.2). My warranty expired on them and I currently can't pay to buy another one. And help connecting them? I tried pressing 1+2 simultaneously, holding the SYNC buttons on the Wii and the back of the Wiimotes but they don't connect. They're blue buttons at the bottom flash. My batteries are fully charged for them so no saying "wat about teh batriez?" -------------------- i stole this.
