I originally thought it would be another douchebag religious debate when I read the title.

Putting all the kids in one place seems like a pedophile parade if you ask me. They shouldn't take Trick-or-treating from these kids, this was a major part of many people's(including mine) childhoods. This is just wrong.

What I like about trick-or-treating is it shows that you could trust your neighborhood- no one these days is willing to trust anyone though so I expect it to get banned a lot more often.

Er...... couldn't the parents just tail behind the kids while they trick or treat? Or are they way beyond lazy to even do that?

The reasoning behind this is that its for their own safety because old people are scared because of all the break ins.

' Trick or Treat! '

' Oh god, please don't kill me, here, take my money and run! '

Er.... no.

Well, at the very least they are offering an alternative but who wants to bet that the fire alarm will go off during said party? laugh3.gif

It's banned in a lot of places in Britain, and almost every council gives out signs to put on your doors asking for trick-or-treaters to avoid your house because Britain hates fun.

Also Trick-or-Treating is "for young children" here, and only very few people give out sweets.

so to combat break ins they're going to ban trick or treating (people flocking the streets, lots of people would notice a break in, deterant etc.) and hold a 4 hour public party (lots of people out of their house ripe to be burgled)

yeah sorry i'm not exactly getting it

Oh no! Now no one will be able to get a few small pieces of candy from each house! This is horrible!

But seriously wouldn't a massive ****ing party be better

I don't see what the big fuss is.

I mean, it could have something to do with no one in Australia giving a damn about Halloween... but yeah, thats about it.

You're thinking about British "Halloween" as opposed to the real thing.

Wow, we don't have this at all where I live.

Frankly, this is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in the past month or so. First, it's believed that every single one of the stories of tampered candy has either been an outright hoax or a grisly error from the candy factory; certainly, no one has ever been convicted or even arrested for trying to poison or cut people with Halloween candy. Second, the petty vandalism that sometimes rears its ugly head on Halloween comes from bigger kids who aren't really interested in dressing up as Spiderman any more. These kids are going to be out causing trouble even if the fire station is passing out free candy; in fact, they're probably out late just about every night. Third, "safety" is kind of a subjective concept. Even if you wear your seat belt and drive sober, you put your life on the line every time you step in a motor vehicle, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't ever drive or ride in a car.

For purposes of full disclosure, I didn't trick-or-treat at all past the time I was about seven years old, but that was because candy was getting harder and harder to find as everyone in my neighborhood got older and in poorer health.
