More specifically, SMB3:SMB :: NSMBW:NSMB.

yeah I'd say this is a sequel to New Super Mario Bros. which is I'd guess a Sequel to Super Mario World (yes i know there was a SMW 2 but that seemed like less of a sequel and more of the start of the Yoshi series)

With the higher difficulty, the Super Guide makes sense and - finally - allows Nintendo to make some harder games for the "Hardcore-Gamers" without caring about the "Newcomers" who would loose against the first Goomba in Level 1-1 in SMB.

So you trust the small gaming section of a music site to say that a game is hard, huh

They probably suck at it.

Better than trusting someone who trolls virtually every game topic that says it's easy.

They're not that hard

The SMS secret stages were hard, but that's in a good way

Watch some of the trailers, some of these levels look pretty hard. The spinning blocks in the sky level for example looks like one could easily fall off if their timming is off by even a second.

I personally think it'll be challenging...but not "hard". i think they are assuming your gonna be playing with 2 or more players and the lack of ground will make thing pretty hard. I myself won't play multiple players except on very RARE ocasions and even then it'll be for fun, not to actually complete stuff. so I think it'll present a slightly harder challenge than the first new Super Mario Bros.

Personally, as a seasoned Mario-2D-platformer-player, I can say this probably won't be hard, at least not compared to the end of SMB3 or SMB2J (the latter being quite quality gaming, IMO). I honestly can't say I've seen anything that looked remarkably challenging as of yet. Perhaps that's not going to be the common opinion, though, and I could be completely wrong, as many of the levels showcased thus far appear to be from fairly early on in the game.

What I REALLY hope for is Classic Controller support even though i know it isn't gonna happen. I'd just love to be able to play this thing without having to shake the wiimote to use a power-up.

It's not like you're going ot have to flail about like an idiot. It's just a little shake if even. And even then, that probably only for the propeller shroom.

The midair spin can be done with any status, and from the looks of the Super Skills video this technique is necessary to pull off some of the 1-Up tricks. I tried mimicking the moves in the video on a real Wii controller and it's like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time, bit of a learning curve. That segment with the Yoshis and Bullet Bills scares me especially if the flutter jump uses the same mechanic.

By the way, in the segment with the Red Koopas over chained platforms and lava waves, did anyone think Mario's mid-air acceleration looked funny? Seems to me that the transition from "running speed" to "P-speed" in the air takes longer than it did in SMB3 or SMW. I can elaborate on that if necessary.

see i'm scared that the wiimote shake is gonna be used for picking things up, flutter jumps, midair spins, and propellor hats and that is alot.
especially for this style game where timing and fast reflexes are key

picking stuff up was done with the run button in the past, correct?
and flutter jumps were done by holding the jump button in the past, correct?
