QUOTE (El Huesudo II @ Oct 19 2009, 07:26 PM)
...Sorry, Onilink, but it's not gonna work.

I mean, you can't actually restrict people from saying what they want.

I mean, I could here say Windows doesn't fancy me because it's slow on my computer. Why? Because it's my experience.

Also, I could say Linux isn't popular in my home country, therefore there's not much information about it in my language. Why? Because it's my experience.

In a message board, opinions is pretty much all you'll get.

I'm sorry, did I say Opinions couldn't be posted? No, I just said they couldn't be submitted.

What.

I happen to use Windows and I'm free of viruses, stop lieing because you want people to use what you use.

Seriously, you are getting pretty ****in annoying with your GM sucks and Linux rocks! comments.

People can use what they want to, you are giving your opinion out so hard and so much its really annoying. Lies won't change what people use, and because someone uses GM doesn't mean you should always go saying, nooooooo this is bad use c++. C++ isn't god, yet you act like it is, you act as if your opinion is the only one that matters.

Stop. Please.

Just because you have no viruses, doesn't mean it's not true. Most Antivirus companies have to add thousands of new entries to their databases daily. Ever wonder why you hear Avast say "Virus database has been updated" so often(if you have it)? It's adding new viruses to its database.

I do happen to have Avast! but it only says the database has been updated a few times a day, and when I go to check to see the viruses found, there's only about 2 or 3.

So? Its not like its that hard to update it anyways, even on slower internet connection. If you know what your doing you won't get viruses in the first place.

Here's some proof that thousands are written every day:
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/907...million_by_2009
"Jari Heinonen, Asia-Pacific vice president at F-Secure Corp., said his company logs about 25,000 malware samples each day, the highest on record."
Hmm...

""While there are more viruses than ever before, people report seeing less of them [because] malware authors are changing their tactics"
Interesting...

It's pretty obvious that there are viruses in spades for Windows.

I find it pretty funny everybody thinks he's "forcing his opinion lulz" on you. I haven't seen that anywhere in this topic; he hasn't even suggested Linux being inherently superior, considering he admitted that

* Linux is incompatible with the current standard
* Particularly because it doesn't by default support any proprietary formats

What does Avast's update simplicity and the likelihood of getting a virus have to do with this? I was trying to disprove his idea that under a thousand viruses are written each day.

I read that.

It says absolutely NOTHING about it being on Windows, so it could be on Linux too, HMMMMMMMMMM....

Not reading and just thinking it has to do with Windows? Just proves my point more.

Also, you neglected to mention that since Linux is open-source, and its userbase relatively familiar with computer workings, it increases the likelihood and speed of updates, fixes, and new features being added to it.

Of course, if you mention this, MFGG will think you're being an amazing crusader and hating on Windows because unless you state "IMHO" in your post everybody will somehow assume you're stating a fact.

A Windows virus will not run on Linux and will not run on a Mac. A virus must be specifically and heavily rewritten between Windows, GNU/Linux and OS-X, because they are nothing alike.

What, did you think you could just email a Windows virus to a Linux user and it would work? Because it won't. It won't even run.

Also Oni 'forced' his opinion a lot in the past iirc so thats probably why everyone is saying that.

And thank you YForce for proving my point.

For some reason, people tend to be bitter sods about operating systems. It's the nerd's favorite sports team--people become vehement and angry about stupid ****.

This is really, honestly, like asking the patrons of a bar to outline pros and cons of their favorite teams. hf controlling the ****storm. I'll sit this one out.

Who said that was 25,000 new, unique samples each day? The article you're citing is "Number of viruses to top 1 million by 2009", referring to 20 years worth of accumulation. If 25,000 new viruses were written every day, we'd go from nothing to a million in just 40 days.

Thousands of viruses written a day is a major overstatement.

No you don't get it.

When you post a source for something you state, the connection has to be empirical. You can't fill in the logical gap between "the rate doesn't say that" and "i'm right" with your own speculation.

Prove it or drop it.

There's your proof. Kaspersky's live update list of new viruses. Most of them appear to be trojans, specifically trojans that are clones of each other with a slight modification.
