It's not bad for someone who doesn't know HTML but I really can't read the text on those buttons on the left side.

I checked out your source. It's good for a first timer, but 2 tips:
1. HTML tags should be in all lowercase for consistency
2. The solo tags that don't have a closing should really be <tagname attributes /> to prevent glitches and memory leaks in some browsers.

I don't see much point in calling out the xhtml singular tag closing conventions when he hasn't declared an xhtml doctype, or more seriously, doesn't have <html> or <body> tags, and everything is contained in an unterminated <head> block.

Sorry if I offended you. I don't know what to say. You not really supposed to connect artic with artist. It's just where part of the name came from.

Oh crap, why didn't I notice that? That's a severe mistake. I'm surprised my browser didn't explode when it tried to load the page.

i highly doubt any current web browsers will suffer serious errors from syntax deviation, primarily because if they do the creators will add a fix for it (other than perhaps IE)

i mean, my webpages are total cluster****s (especially since i am trying to format them while dynamically generating them in PHP) and my browser hasn't exploded

anyways, opera doesn't do anything out of the ordinary on that page -- but i'm concerned primarily about the undeclared doctype since the browser generally assumes for some really crappy limited one

My friend gave me that head part. She acts like an expert at HTML. So should I get rid of the <Head> things and put that HTML and body thing in?

I meant IE. I didn't think it would have to be explicitly stated because the majority of Web Users use IE.

no you need head tags too

the basic format of a web page is

CODE
<!DOCTYPE BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH GO LOOK IT UP ON W3C>
<html>
 <head>
     <title>Web Page Title Lol!</title>
     // metatags and styles go here
 </head>
 <body>
   // Everything else in the page goes here
 </body>
</html>

It's called quirks mode. All mainstream browsers should be quite tolerant of malformed markup.

you don't even need all that doctype bull**** for html5

it's just <!DOCTYPE HTML>

So I fixed it up a bit.
Apparently, using <!DOCTYPE HTML> screws over my whole page.
Whatever, nobody's reported a crash yet, so Im fine.
